Before anything else I want you guys to know that somehow this guy came out unscathed!!! This deer incident popped up a couple days ago on my Instagram feed. The rider somehow managed to keep the bike upright even though he centerpunched the deer and almost split it in two. I wouldn't want to imagine his fate if he wasn't properly geared up.

Amazing that he kept it upright. That bike is gonna smell like a venison barbecue for a while.
Likely it was a fawn that weighed less than 50 lbs. They are all over the place right now. I mostly ride during midday this time of year in Wisconsin to avoid the majority of deer traffic that takes place in the morning and evening. I know my riding area well enough to slow down in high deer traffic areas but you never know when one will rocket out in front of you.

Bambi literally owns the night roads around here: Therefore, I never ride at night, around sunset or in the early morning.
The quantity of hooved roadkill from every-night carnage is astonishing.

I quit riding at night after that elk killed my Subaru.
