I just learned the David Massey passed away. Some of you may not know David, but he was quite the mentor to many Guzzi riders.
He was a staple at the Okie campout. Him, Van Bartlett and JN Smyth were the first 3 to begin that tradition many moons ago. All 3 are gone now, but the Okie continues.
David was a DIY kinda guy. He once told me if you can't build it yourself..you don't really need to have it.

RIP my friend .
The last real discussion we had together was about JN and Van , what a treasure the moonshiner was , as is his lovely companion Dottie .
Remind us to tell the story about the young fella drinking a bit too much of David's *twice filtered* at the Okie about ten years back .

It was about 5 years ago and I had an itch to learn to make moonshine. No real reason why as I'm not one to drink it anyway. I do sip it on occasion but wanted to learn to make it to give away as gifts. I called David up and he got me up and running and I ended up going to spend a day with him at his home while he gave me a crash course. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he learned to make it from his dad, who learned from a guy named Popcorn Sutton's dad. I've got a pretty valuable recipe on my hands
Disclaimer: Making moonshine is still legal to make for personal use in Missouri for residents over 21 years of age.

Rest in Peace David, pretty sure I met him at the Okie, but I'm not sure...........prob ably had a snort or two of "Old Tanglefoot"

You met him and Dottie . They had retired from riding probably ten years ago , but continued coming to the Okie in a Toyota Chinook .

There are several connections between David and the *family* , some best discussed in person . We will tell some stories in October for sure :thumb:

Another gone, from the greatest generation, I suspect. Very sorry for your loss.
Memories AND Shine? A legacy. The man lives on. Good fortune, R3~

R.I.P. David and Godspeed...my sincere condolences to his family and all his friends.
I never met David, but had the honor several times of meeting JN Smyth at the Datil Rally. He was a true Guzzisti...

Yep, you know it's a good rally when you go home with a Mason jar rim dent across the bridge of your nose!

Sad news indeed, always a pleasure to be around; and, his "libations" were to be beheld!!
