Title: looking for some help with parts interchange on SP1 / SP2
Post by: mcmuck on June 30, 2019, 10:12:44 AM
Hi Folks! I have an SP1 that I'm looking for Lowers for and I found a set of SP2 lowers but I'm unable to figure out from the parts book if they will fit, the folks selling them seem unable to help, I suspect this bike was made before they were born : ) so I'm looking for some advice. The SP2 parts book doesn't list a part number for the lowers although the picture used appears the same as the SP1 parts book, there is a few items like that. The people selling them show the part number as 275..... where the SP1 is a 175 series part number could be colour that makes the different number but I'm not familiar enough with Guzzi part numbers to know, I have figured out the second three denote right or left (yes I'm a journeyman partsman) The main bracket for the lowers is the same but the SP2 parts book only has a part number for one of the bottom brackets which is the same but the other has no number like the lowers. Any help would be appreciated.

I have parts books for both the SP1 and the SP2.  The lower fairing numbers ARE different.  I don't know the variation in the pieces, but the numbers are not the same.
SP1 = 17570361
SP2 = 28570341

There are multiple numbers representing left/right and several color variants.  I could give them all if you want.  But the basics answers your question.

Again, I can't say what part of the pieces is different.  They might fit.  I can only verify the numbers.

I believe the I was roundfin and the II was squarefin so differences are most likely based around accomodating the larger barrels and heads on the later motor.

Hi Tract design! I'd be interested in the lowers and mount hardware if you'd like to sell it? I haven't figured out private messaging yet. I have an address in Montana to ship to. If you can private message me lets see if we can work something out. Mine is the light blue so I have to paint them regardless.
Pehays, Thanks for the parts info, I couldn't find the numbers for the SP2, I had 275 series in my head but they are indeed 285, the square fin difference makes sense. I was unable to get both part numbers for the bottom brackets one is the same for sure as is the main upper mount.
Thanks for your help with this!

The later (SPNT) lower brackets , both on the heads and the bell housing attachments are longer and more spread out. This might help with knee comfort
Top bracket left side fairing to head picture . Possibly later ( NT) type

Hi Guzzista! I'll have to mount the lowers to know, I'm 5'7 so I'm not sure the issues the tall people have will affect me, The side stand on the other hand appears to be a suicide machine, push as far as I can, tilt o the left, hope for the best : )
I see a redesign in my future, the trick will be to come up with an elegant solution not a big clunky thing like a Reynolds.

I am about 5'7" as well and the early brackets ( tucks lowers closer to the frame )worked fine for my knees. Tractdesigns's lowers and brackets should take care of everything if you end up going that way. As per the side stand, the original sucks, even more when the lowers are in the way. I and am sure others are using this http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=5094

I thought there must be a solution by now I can't be the only one with stand issues. I suspect the stand being hidden by the cylinders and lowers was what prompted the design, The best version of the no ride away side stand was BMW's k bike that when you pulled the clutch lever it flipped the stand up. I always thought it was a cool way to solve the problem. Elegant very untypical of the brand : )

The lowers preclude the use of the locking understand which has its bracket on the frame rail behind the fairing.
They should have used the sidestand from Iirc a later LM which bolts into the crossbolt for the tranny Iirc.
My pornographic memory isn't what it was.

Alas, there WAS a solution.  Astico Moto in London used to fabricate a bracket and stand.  No longer in production.  I have one.
