After too long a break have been listening to Bob Seger for the last couple of hours. Another iconic American musician IMHO.

He was Rock and Roll when almost everyone else forgot how to Rock and Roll . Have seen him live 3 times , 1973 , 1977 , and 1981 . Maybe the most professional live concerts in the  history of the genre . Seger could literally control an auditorium holding 30,000 people with his voice , no other singer in R&R with the power and range he possessed .

As an aside , there was another Tulsa connection , David Teagarden and Mike Bruce both played with Seger , and co-wrote several songs with him .

 Do you wanna Rock &Roll , we'll Rock &Roll for ya .

Probably because for a few years the only new decent R&R was coming from Seger and Dire Straits , even the Stones went disco for a couple of years.
I mean how many Eagles songs can you listen to in one day ?

He did free concert here in Michigan when I was young. He’d come out to the lake and you could here his music clear across the other side.

It’s “Turn the Page” fellas. One of the best ever.

Yes, that's when I got back to my Rockabilly roots...I'm not a big fan of Seger but I do like his songs with a steady  RR upbeat like Betty Lou's gettin out tonight...  I did saw Seger in the late 70's in a 3000 seat auditorium..It was way too loud ...

Decent? There’s a lot of artists now and there were many then that just don’t get airplay. It’s what the promoters “promote” that we have to listen to over and over again (if you play the radio) many listeners can’t fathom music they have never heard. Ooo I never heard that, take that shit off and put in this bob see-gar 8 track dude.........

True , but , Seger was willing to play 200 live shoes a year which meant long grinding bus tours and sacrificing any form of a normal life . Playing all of those live shows creates a large fan base , making for big record sales and air play . The Cate Brothers could likely have been very well known if they had been willing to do 150 date bus tours playing in small venues to build a larger fan base which leads to playing in huge arenas . It isn't all luck or just being talented , often times it's about sacrifice . Seger hated touring , he did it anyway , being a R&R star is a grimy business .

Seger is the man!  Seen him live many times, most recently a few weeks ago in NJ - his final tour.  He’s getting older, but still sounded good.  “Turn the page” is the greatest song, ever.

At the Susanville CA Natarally last month, I said something about drinking O.P.s and a few didn't know what I meant. I explained and then mentioned Seger's 5th album, Smoking O.P.s. Most had never heard of it.  Said the cover mimicked a pack of Lucky Strikes and a few didn't know what I meant. Sigh. Getting old.

There’s heaps in that category Lannis from him.
All his stuff is good, just depends on which of his moods you want to tap into.
I like his reminiscing introspective stuff..

Like I mentioned earlier, Bob still sounds good.  He sits down and plays guitar MUCH more than he used to.
