Title: World's fastest 250 Ninja
Post by: Rough Edge racing on July 15, 2019, 12:41:53 PM
Well, it may be a stretch....My good friend and fellow racer Kevin Roberts , the only guy who could best my 650 Triumph  with his Triumph, bought his two daughters' a 06 Ninja 250 for land speed racing..A low cost Craig's list special....An oil change, new plugs, new tires,a tank of pump fuel it's racing machine. No need to wash it, lol... His daughters' 18 and 20, recently got bike licenses through a DOT training program..They have limited riding experience but did ride the Ninja 250 flat out for one and half miles multiple times...the older  redhead set a new one mile record of 102 MPH but the RPM limiter cut the speed short at 103 MPH ( class record for stock production 250 4 stroke OHC is 107 mph, bike make unknown...The younger dark hair girl, 18 years old, ran 101 MPH...
Here they are going through tech inspection, the 18 year old in required full leathers...

And it takes a young rider.

I've notice that I just don't have the courage to push things hard anymore.  Or maybe it's (bad) experience and the wisdom of old age

I think that's awesome.  Sounds like with just a little bit of work,  one of those young ladies could have a world record.  Also sounds like your friend is capable of that work.

No, it's probably better to change gearing...but 5 mph more speed is a lot to ask for without some tuning...In stock production class anything is legal inside the engine other than increasing displacement beyond class limits, exterior, mufflers, carbs/ throttle bodies, body work if any, must appear stock..

Hey, awesome job!

... but 31 years ago, the street legal Kawasaki KR-1 two stroke did 139mph though...

But not with a young novice rider on an entry level bike on a standing start track.... KR1 probably has twice the HP of the Ninja...

Great story. Cudo's to the adventurous  girls. I recently crashed my 08 250. It was probably the most fun bike I've ever owned. Easily rolled up to 100 MPH and felt like it was comfortable there. Bone stack, simple mods might give her a couple of MPH.

Very cool!  I owned an '04 Ninja 250 in '07 for a couple thousand miles.  It was fun in the twisties!  If you just rev it like you stole it the bike was a hoot to ride!  Sold it for a 25% profit after 4 months of weekend fun!

Those Ninja 250s were very comfortable compared to the later generations including the bump to 300 and now 400cc.  Good ergonomics and the tail already had turn signal relocation spots once the bike is registered to an owner.  Also nice little pods for the front turn signals to help with aerodynamics.  If she did that she probably could have broke the record.  :)

Put a 110 lb person on it and it is an amazing little performer.
