Title: Tonti rear drum brake adjustment tips?
Post by: MarkMk on July 18, 2019, 07:54:30 PM
Has anyone had success adjusting the twin leading shoe rear brake link rod between the actuating cams on an 850T ?
Mine seems to be lacking it's potential.
I ended up wedging the brake lever down while the interconnecting rod was off, levering the front shoe lever out to make contact with the drum, and winding the rod adjuster out before replacing the pin (bolt) , while making sure there was no slack, allowing for clevis wear, but I have yet to test ride it .
Does this method make sense ?

Yes, that's the way it's done.

The rear on my Eldo was not seeming to work well. I pulled the drum to see what shoes were in it and maybe change them. I noticed the drum had brake dust and maybe a mist of oil (or was it condensation??). Used some brake clean and paper towels until the contact area of the drum was clean. Did the same for the shoes. Work great now! Might give it a try also.

Thanks Charlie,
I better investigate further, it's still as useless as tits on a bull, even locking the rear on dirt is impossible,,,,,But the twin brembos up front do the job, maybe I'll wait 'till I change the rear rubber,,,,
