Title: Father/Daughter evening ride
Post by: JC85 on July 23, 2019, 08:09:39 PM
My 15 year old daughter has been asking to start riding with me, more often. This evening was a perfect 84 degrees, and she had a sweet tooth, so we rode about 30 miles up the highway to the closest Dairy Queen in Iola, KS.

I'm not sure which she enjoyed more; the ride or her chocolate brownie extreme blizzard.  :food:

We took the back way home for some more relaxed, scenic riding. Stopped off at a historical marker south of Iola that I had driven by a hundred or so times, before, but had never taken the time to check out. It turned out to be a memorial plaque for a local military General.

Oddly, there were no details, other than the General's name and the date that the memorial was erected.

Took a slight detour to the west, when we got to Humboldt, and stopped off at the Neosho River Park.

Despite the fact that the crazy amounts of rain stopped weeks ago, the Neosho is still raging high. The transition from smooth to rough water is where a large, currently invisible dam is.

Another example of how high the river is running. These steps normally go down another 2 flights to a fishing landing.

Of course, I had to take a couple of glamour shots of the old girl to make her feel pretty.

All in all, a great father/daughter ride.

Being squired around on that Eldo will spoil her for riding on anything else!   But that's a good thing ....

Thanks for the tale and pics!

She's already asked me if I'll one day pass the Eldo down to her, as my dad passed it down to me.   :bike-037:

My son is lusting after my BSA A10 Golden Flash

and hinting about what might happen to it when I'm "past riding it", to the point of I'm thinking of hiring a food taster when he's by ..... !

Better watch out, because that is one gorgeous bike! Haha. I told her the same thing my dad told me, years ago: One day...far, far into the future.

Something she will always remember. Keep up the good work! You only get ONE chance, and you seem to be doing it well!
