What kind of competent journalists were they? Incredible! Or is the author just a busybody?

Alan Carthcart has a review in the new issue of RIDER. Sir Alan is at the top of the heap for Moto journalists for those who pay attention to such things.

I wouldn't classify that as a "good" review. Either good from the actual report or good as it relates to his impressions of the bike. He loses me right off by citing claims from "Stelvio owners" that the Stelvio overheats in temps as low as 82 deg. Also that Stelvio's had electronic issues and that a 2014 Stelvio was more expensive than a 2017 Tiger 1200. None of those things strike me as true and the reporter does nothing to prove his points. He seems to rely on others for some of his conclusions including that the V85TT is only good for crossing the campsite in regards to offroad ability. This after riding it on a section of dirt road he said compared to one he rode an Indian on. More damning with faint praise than positive points is what I got from that review.

Well, I thought it was fine. The guy started out with a prejudice against Guzzis - he's entitled to that; I don't agree with him but there we are. He didn't like the look or sound of the bike when he saw it in print; he loved it when he rode it - it won him round. If he didn't ride it off-road, that was because the journo day in Sardinia didn't include that -not exactly his fault. Anyway, it's a review, and it's new.

I couldn't read it since I've already ridden the bike and have my own views. The guy's such a moron I couldn't get past his BS about Stelvios and the Eagle's Nest reference. Great, if he likes the bike, he lost me as a writer. Perhaps he knows how to ride a motorcycle?

It’s getting hard to imagine how anyone can write a review and say anything that’s not been said so far.
I’d be keen to read a review from Pete or such, after they’ve had their paws on one for maintenance or repair work.
The two I rode were great.
A bit “clacky ” in the up changes for the bottom half of the ‘box.
Seat’s a fraction high for me.
Favourably impressed with the power.

I wouldn’t call it a positive for Guzzi. He apparently likes the v85 , incorrectly rips Guzzi and Piaggo. If I were new the idea of getting a Guzzi I might be pretty turned off after the first couple paragraphs.

And "Guzzi should give me a V85 a few weeks so I could think about it". We have to decide with max one hour testing time or less.

Yep, sort of like folks who use motor to refer to internal combustion. That's an engine.

I had Alan on top of my list in starting '90 . But last years I see only history of the make, and very little about real driving. And it is always super.

Well written. A couple of contradictions though? He said he spent the entire ride in second and third, and only shifted into sixth once, just to say he did. Later, he says the engine is fairly smooth, but vibration creeps in around eighty mph. Hmmm. How much time did he spend at eighty?
On my 2018 V7III, the engine is very smooth from about 3,800rpm on up, with and "indicated" 70mph occurring at 4,000rpm where the engine is smooooooth. If I run it up to eighty, it's just as smooth.
So, thanks for the review, pal, and glad you liked the engine, but did you have enough of a ride to reach any useful conclusions.
Oh, but I did like the comment about, paraphrasing here, the engine being a box of explosions.

Exactly right. If the crankshaft is parallel to the longest dimension of the bike/car it is longitudinal in orientation. If anyone ever challenges you on this, pop the hood on any American made V8 car or truck. Everyone knows they are longitudinally mounted. Look at how the V is configured and you’ll see it is the same as with an MG motorcycle. And just as with MG, the crankshaft is parallel to the longest dimension of the bike.
