Title: Not your average Monkey Bike!
Post by: canuck750 on July 30, 2019, 09:04:43 PM
Benelli Volcano, 175cc two stroke single in a monkey bike chassis, what were they thinking!

Can you imagine being a kid with this thing? I wonder how many of these purchases ended badly.

Only 200 were made...claimed top speed of 65mph...There was one at Harper's auction a couple years ago...wanted it but not as much as someone else...

That things sounds crazy! I've always wanted one of these; Moto Guzzi 50cc Magnum (Benelli shares a model with this as well). I friend of mine had one when we were kids, and I believe he had an 80cc or 90cc top end kit. larger carb etc, on it and it was already a mini beast, I can only imagine 175cc in that same size!

OM! I'm deeply in like. That little bugger will no doubt out run my RS125 to 50 m/h.
Its headlight looks to be stolen from a massive fire engine.
It only needs a proper fender.
There's a bonus too. The riding position is fabulous - compared to the RS.  R3~

I worn out the "Monkey" Wards catalog looking at the Benelli offerings.  I still love the look of a Volcano!   :thumb:

Apparently so, I think maybe just the kick start system is pedal instead of kick? I do believe the Guzzi Magnum is 4 speed, and the Benelli Magnum is 5 speed

Engines fitted for Guzzi Magnum were 5 speeds Benelli engines .
Gear shift on right side.

Pedals ? Those days pedals were mandatory in the french market for 50 cc moped. :violent1:

How 'bout this Honda ST90 (made to look like an early CT70) with a CL175 twin.

That is gorgeous!

It looks like Honda built it, surprised how well the twin fits the chassis.

I've never had any desire to own a minibike until reading this thread.

But haven't you been wanting a Grom since they came out?  Maybe it was some one else.

125cc, 4 cylinder Monkey!  I thought this one was an Andreas Georgeades creation, but it appears to be out of Japan.  There are also a bunch of pictures of the engine build if anyone is interested.  That blue Honda Trail twin is super cool!  Wow!

While it looks like a CT70, it is actually an ST90, painted like a CT70, which is a larger chassis.  I recall reading the build thread a few years back, there was some non-trivial modification done to the chassis to enlargen it a bit, while keeping the look.
