At the risk of sounding snarky, probably by leaving the R9T at home and taking one of their other Beemers more suitable to a road trip.

I saw no pix of an asymmetrical gas tank.
Frankly, I think it looks cluttered with no cohesive design. Just a smattering of odds and ends. No flowing lines or complementary shapes. It's like they took the visual aspects of the /5 and stuck them in wherever possible whether they fit or not.
I like the second photo of the Guzzi - where'd that come from?
It's interesting they're using tube style wires - perhaps they realized the tubeless style are too much trouble and too heavy?

Wirespokes, check out the photos on the link, look at the rubber tank pad. It is different from one side to the other to make up for the asymmetry in the tank. It dont surprise me, BMW has been doing the "assymetrical thang" for years now with headlights, and other styling cues.

Not my cup of tea, not that I could afford it anyway !
One thing that irks me about this and so many other bikes over recent years ( decades ? ) is the demise of functional mudguards ( fenders ). Probably the cranky ol git in me but form over function in this area sucks.

I believe I read last year that after the GS series te 9T was the next best selling line for BMW. I'm 99.9% sure I remember correctly.
I've had seat time on several of the series. For what they are or are not, they sure are fun to bomb around on for 100 miles. No stint was in excess of that but it was a blast.

I don't think the tank is asymmetrical either.
Your description of it's looks is how I describe adventure bikes.

Just looks like a blue R9T to me, not a /5 at all.

Lupine (i.e. wolflike) Blau??? Looks a little like the old K series Alaska Blau to me.

The tank looks asymmetrical due to the silver "boomerang" (air inlet?), I can't tell for sure if it is or not though. Maybe someone can flip the image and superimpose one over the other to tell for sure. One thing for certain though - the knee pads are totally different shaped.

Not really digging the looks of that one... But I rode a R9T racer this spring... It was a vary cool bike! Kinda small, and looking at it I thought I was going to be in pain looking at the low bars, and high pegs... I was wrong! Even with my 54 year old body, span 6'3" tall, and 250+ lbs fit great. Nice engine... not as thumpy as a Guzzi… but still enough of the twin feel to make me happy. It wouldn't replace a Guzzi for me... but it could be a garage mate if I had the cash.

Well, a good friend has just bought a metallic blue R100/7 in fairly good condition to accompany his mint and beloved Honda Ur - VFR 750. Looks definitely extremely different from that lump.

I like that it is air cooled like a motorcycle should be. And although it isn't a copy of a slash 5 - 6 - or 7 , it is better looking than anything else BMW has produced for more than 20 years.

:thumb: What's impressive is the Griso prototype was first shown in 2003 I think. If they could have taken one more stab at the G I think they could have made a naked roadster for the ages.

The Griso was definitely the best of the Aprilia designs of that period. I saw Griso prototypes, although not in final form, at the Milano show in 2001. The huge muffler was already in place :grin:
This BMW thing is retro-creepy and weird, not stylish. Like dressing up your plain sister to look like your long dead grandmother.

OK it has a round headlight but compared to a /5 or /6 the whole thing is out of proportion, too thick in the middle, the seat is too small, and non-fenders. It's really a shame that BMW can't capitalize better on their long heritage. Maybe get Willy G out of retirement to pen something up?

I understand that an R9T with Ohlins suspension is the business. However, available factory hard luggage would be nice...
