Title: Custom Audace
Post by: JoeW on August 08, 2019, 12:04:07 PM
I have not posted many of my projects but, I thought some may find this interesting. Some may find it disgusting too I guess but, to each their own.
This is how I got it, a new 2016 with 9 miles on it

I first stripped off the body panels so I could see the true lines of the bike

I'm not a bobber guy, but I could get used to this!

I really like the Carbon Audace parked next to it.   :thumb:

As a custom bike I can appreciate what you are going for.

Around here you would get rear ended the first day riding to the store.  If you did't the LEOs would be pulling you over for the plate location.   :copcar:

For me personally I like a seat that follows the lines of the bike more instead of that huge rise at the rear, but I guess you were trying to find a place for the tag.

Also, not a fan of short (no back pressure) exhaust pipes.  They look good, but the noise and lack of back pressure wouldn't work for me.

See on my Mean Streak how I tucked the seat in against the frame rails?

Joe, is that seat from a Triumph bobber?
Rick.

Rick, It is, the customer picked it out. I think it works.

Very fine work, Joe!  I like it overall, but I share twowheeladdict's reservations about the lack of silencers.  Absence of back pressure is one issue: maybe the ECU can compensate, maybe not. But you must have to wear some extra-heavy-duty earplugs to keep your chromosomes from being addled by the exhaust thunder.  Dangerous effect on rider fatigue and concentration.  I'm sure your bike's exhaust would be right at home in a herd of Harleys, but is that who you really want to emulate?

Another point: Those tiny (ie, barely visible) rear/stop lights seem quite unsafe.   I think your bike needs a serious, easily visible stoplight.  Perhaps this could be mounted on the back of the seat, near to top.

With those two mods, I think your bike would be perfect.  It's more interesting visually than the OEM configuration. Congrats!

Thanks for the compliments. I had intended on putting 4 of those LED lights in but the customer only wanted the pair. As far as back pressure, i think the biggest issue is loss of the cross over, the idle is rough and has a lag until the rpms get over 2k. I'll make some changes to the mapping and try to straighten that out. The exhaust note is awesome and he does fit right in with the Harleys, he lives just south of Milwaukee!
