Title: tonti steering stem question
Post by: gearman on August 11, 2019, 12:14:33 PM
Odd question but I see two steel tapered tits sticking out beyond the bottom of the aluminum lower fork tree.I know that the stem is steel and wondered how it is attached  to the tree.I assumed that maybe it is a spline press fit.Any ideas?

Yes it should be a press fit.

Yes but does it have splines or are the two tits  there for insurance against rotation?

The two "nubs" are leftover from the steering damper setup of the V7 Sport/750S/S3 and 850 Le Mans. The bottom plate had holes that the nubs dropped into - detents to lock the plate in the desired position.

Charlie,You are amazing.Thanks. I am whacking up my trike Project again. This time I am putting a Vega steering gearbox and STEERING WHEEL on it.Even more problems to solve. If this doesn't get me kicked out of the Guzzi club then I don't know what will.

You wont get kicked out of the club for putting in a vega steering wheel, Gearman. Now if you decide to put in one of those "chromed chain" little tiny steering wheels, thats another story!
Rick.

PS I had one of those on my Gremlin, back in the 70s!
