Title: Breva 1200 tank filler water drain
Post by: Pizza Guzzi on August 16, 2019, 09:43:53 PM

I presume the hole indicated in the photo is to drain water away from the tank filler neck instead of running into the tank when the lid is lifted like is happening.
Anyway it's blocked and I'm trying to avoid removing the tank again to unblock it. Anyone had any luck clearing a blockage with this without removing the tank ?
Thanks
Glenn

Patrick told me to clean the EV drains with a short length of inner cable from a bicycle or similar in an electric drill, that and air pressure.
I happened to have a roll of downrigger wire which I used, it takes a while, dribble a few drops of light oil down there as well to stop it rusting closed again.
On the EV the tube is a pigtail of about 3 turns.

On mine it created so much rust it completely plugged off the filter causing the bike to bog down on a hill but I just back flushed it and most came out.

Good Luck

Thanks Roy. In the end I just pulled the tank and as it turned out there was now other way I was going to remove the blockage !

This is the nipple under the tank where the drain hose connects. It was so blocked with rock hard white corrosion I removed it from the tank and drilled it out. The tube moulded into the tank where the nipple screws in was similarly blocked with a shed load of white crud which I broke up with a screwdriver and blew out with the air gun.
The way the drain passage is routed involves two right angle bends and the nipple where the rubber drain hose attaches is quite restrictive.
I think I'll spray a bit of WD40 down it from time to time and blow it through
with the air gun to hopefully stop it corroding up again.
