Title: 8/33 7/33 or 8/37

The EV had the stock 8/33, which I was OK with, but it made starting off on a hill, especially towing the camper, a bit of a challenge.
I tried a 7/33 set, and that of course helped with the camper, and seat of the pants felt more powerful. But I ended up spending a lot of miles in fifth gear all the time, and noticed a fuel economy drop.
I noticed that MG Cycle had an 8/37 gear set. I figured it was time I learned how to shim a ring and pinion gear set. Now that I have a few hundred miles on it, I can say I really like it. It help when starting off, about like the 7/33 set. And on the highway, I use fourth OR fifth, depending on 'things'. Where with the 7/33 it was always fifth. It feels like a good compromise.

Wayne, if you have no use for the 7/33 set I'm looking for one for my Cali 1100 that the sidecar is going on if you want to sell it?

It is actually an old worn out set. The ring gear looks perfect, but the pinion is badly pitted and very noisy. I used Redline Shockproof in it to quiet it down a bit while I tried it out.
