Title: Superdual X to Los Angeles

I started today to LA with the intent to do no slab and hit every northern state on my new SD X. I really struggled between it and the V85 but with the 18/21" rims and modern rear suspension, it seemed much more dirt worthy. And being over 100 pounds lighter. Well, today was just 4 states and about 80 miles of dirt/gravel road. I will have much more fun the more west I go, obviously!

     That looks like a real nice bike and at the right weight and price. Very nice, enjoy.

Well, yesterday was 250 miles of fog in the morning and then a lot of trouble trying to cross the James river. A lot of flooding. I tried 5 different crossings and all flooded over or bridge washed out.
Had to go north and slab it over the river.

Where are you going to & from?  How are you finding the dirt routes along the way?

I am very interested in the Superdual - luckily there are two dealers here in Washington.

I do have a question or two - it appears from their website that the bike has ABS (appears to have ABS ring on front in pictures) is that correct? Also, what has your fuel consumption been like so far?

...the braking duties are handled by Brembo components. ABS is standard and can be turned off at the rear.

You need to be hitting them up for a sponsorship. "Well known international motorcycle traveler criss-crosses the continent on SWM." Gotta be worth some spares, tires, etc at the very least.  Just sayin'  :wink:

I'll try to sum up a few questions. I hate the ABS front and rear and I will be routing the masters directly to the calipers one day. Unfortunately, the ABS unit controls the dash speedo, etc. It's mostly a Husky TE630 so there are aftermarket, O2 resistor, lowering links, etc. Getting about 50 mpg.
I downloaded the "Rever" app that lets you choose routes and it will locate unpaved roads. But in MN/IA, it's as simple as go west then turn on the dirt road south, then west, etc. I need to work in Los Angeles next week for a month or so and I decided to use this week to take the long way there. Trying to cover all states west of the Mississippi this trip. Done 49 on my Guzzis but now I plan to repeat with this thing. Currently in Helena. I will take a slow way to Lewiston today. Pretty chilly out and may rain so making at a shorter day.
