Title: Dies the ignition key fit the fork lock?
Post by: philwarner on October 02, 2019, 12:42:08 PM
1996 Cali.  Is the ignition key supposed to turn the fork lock?  Or should there be a separate fork lock key?

Whats the owners manual say? I think it does but check. Be careful when turning the key, some bad things are possible.

My 95, 96 & 97 all had separate keys.  I'm guessing yours will be the same.

Here is what the downloaded owner's manual says, but it does not say whether it is the ignition key you use.

My ignition key does not turn the inner lock "anti-clockwise" so it either takes another key or the lock is seized.  I was just trying to find out which.  I have yet to see a list of keys that come with the bike and I have one for the ignition/gascap/seat lock, and one for the hard bag locks.

BTW, does anyone have a photo of how the seat lock is supposed to also be a helmet lock? I can't figure it out.

It’s coming back to me now, it is a different key if I’m remembering right. I think it is more slender. Sometimes they will stick in the lock so definitely oil it. Can you see a number on the lock?

My Mille came with 4 keys and others came with 3 keys. Go figure.

It's a Neiman lock, so the original key would have been stamped Neiman.

I sent the PO the photo and other responses and he found two more keys that he is sending to me.
He said "Phil, I think I have two more keys, I will send them to you. W. Germany, Newman"
The cut on the shorter one looks like the Ignition key I have, so the other one may be the fork lock key.

Did original keys have any sort of Guzzi logo on them?

EDIT:  the keys came today and the one that looked like the ignition key with a similar cut does not fit in the ignition - it is a little fatter than the one that works.  The one I thought might be the fork lock key slips into the fork lock easily but does not turn.  I am soaking the lock cylinder with penetrating oil to see if that helps.

The PO also had a BMW that he recently sold so these keys may have been spares for the Beemer.  The one that I thought might be a fork lock key has Neiman on one side and "W.-Germany" on the other and looks like an original key rather than a copy.
