So.....many years ago I bought an unloved, many-times-advertised-but-not-sold Nevada to become a powertrain donor for my Monza. When I bought it it was obviously overfuelling a bit and would occasionally piddle fuel when put on the sidestand. which was useful as a bargaining tool and brought the price down a bit, but we digress. Long story short, the Dellorto PHBH 30's this model has contains floats which are two piece shells glued together. Someone had previously drilled a hole in the offending one and emptied it, closing the hole with epoxy. They forgot of course that the fuel got in through the seam, so the actual problem still existed and would surface sometime after the bike left the shop.......
So I replaced the offending float and life was good, especially once the powertrain found its way into a bike 20kg lighter and with half the frontal area. Actual fact: the conversion added 1.6kg to the bike, weighed before and after with no change in the fuel level.
Fast forward to last month, similar problem. Dropped the bowls (coz that's easy and you can see if its just some muck in the fuel) but they're clean as. Further investigation shows a half full float, now more of a 'sink' than a float. The other side had JUST started to gain a few drops but was very hard to pick. I was glad I ordered two so in they went.
This is really just a heads up for anyone else who may have fuelling issues with these carbs fitted. Looking through the Dellorto range, not many seem to be made this way, most are one piece mouldings so the problem may not be common. I haven't looked to see whether the Lario uses the same, I know there are a few on here.
Dellorto part number is 9010.1 9.5gr and they are white in colour. I got mine from two sources eventually (one couldn't supply immediately so I went online and got some elsewhere as well, they're not dear), Eurocarb who are DellortoUK had the right ones and took 10day from order to doorstep here in NZ. The second pair duly arrived and now I have spares for in about 10 years time when these one pack a sad and need replacing..... :grin:

The white floats are pure crap, common for them to fill with gas/petrol. Best bet would be to find some earlier floats, even if they're used.

Same for Amal floats. The new white ones you can buy will fail really quickly. I've picked up a lifetime supply of older used ones at swap meets for almost nothing, although I must admit that there's a newer black solid float that works very well ...

I guess then the trick is to buy the black ones at 11grams and the clear float bowl that's available, set the 11 up to give the same fuel level as the 9.5gram?

I bought a pair of new floats for my V50. Big mistake, both filled with fuel in a month or so.
I put the old ones back.

A year or two ago, some OEM floats surfaced on ebay, and I grabbed a set for the AeroLario for when the white ones went tits up. Sure enough, that happened this summer.

As mentioned, the only carbs I've bought new floats for are Amals for my British bikes ... BUT those look like the same black solid "foam" material, and so far after years of use, mine haven't sunk. Someone else might know if the Dellorto floats are made out of the same stuff ...
