Thanks, for posting that. I have been browsing 2019 Vegas sold bikes all morning on the MECUM website. You would think that These sold listings should be about the best guide to values out there even though they seem awfully high. Economy is either good or the top 1% of wealth hangs out bidding against each other in Vegas.
Moto Guzzi listed were quite few at this auction.
1925 Moto Guzzi CV2 Racer = $82,500
1968 Moto Guzzi V7 Sport original fair/good runner 40K mi = $4,400 (seems like a good deal)
72 V7Sport from Stockholm museum = $13,200
1998 Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro Sport fair/good = $5,500
Registration to view old lots is free and instant. Makes me feel nostalgically melancholy for not accumulating more of those oldies when they were cheap (er)...

LM III still in the crate- Did I read that right? That could be interesting

That's what it looks like.. interesting for sure.
(https://i.ibb.co/9q7hzm1/Auuction.jpg) (https://ibb.co/9q7hzm1)
It doesn't show a photo, but it says white/red... does that combo even exist for the III?
(https://i.ibb.co/MRxNNdK/Auuction2.jpg) (https://ibb.co/MRxNNdK)
Comes from this collection... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgPACh00w34 (I think you can see the bike in the crate at around 58 seconds into the video - it's red)
-
Interesting mix of motorcycles; amazing after all these years that people are still finding new Guzzis & Laverdas in crates.
I would imagine MV Augusta would be at the top of the range, but a nice mix of other Italian bikes, wonder how the sales prices will stack up at the end.
Those Parillas are quite the art deco statement
I was in the Mecum site earlier today, but was unsuccessful in my search. I was looking for bike's from the Len Fitch collection; he was well known in the local racing circuit and recently passed away.
Tks for posting the photos and listings.

That 850 GT would look good in my garage..
1968 Moto Guzzi V7 Sport original fair/good runner 40K mi = $4,400 (seems like a good deal)
i don't thing there was such a thing as a V7 sport in 1968.. a V7 yes but that was a loop frame.

Here is a picture of the bike reported sold at the Vegas Mecum Auction as a 68 V7 SPORT for 4400

the true name is V 700.. maybe it got the sport name when they put on fishtail mufflers.
-
It does LOOK SPORTY!
-
Mecum and B-J prices are not indicative of true market prices.
People get into a bidding war and run the price up.
The same vehicle on the open market wouldn't draw near the money.

This is true...and IMHO, both events have totally "morphed" into a "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" theme....
It's a showcase these days for the 1% crowd... However, it's fun to go LOOK at all the bikes anyway, and that's all I have been doing that with friends for >20 years now... :thumb:   :boozing:

wonder what the MECUM auctioneer's fee is like on a cherry $13,000 '72 Lemans?

I am sure you can look it up on their website, but I would imagine it is a minimum of 10% or more!! :clock:

Yup, 10%. I bought a Ducati from the Houston action this year, part of the mur the blur collection. Some real bargains at that one.

I have noticed over the years at MECUM / Vegas that the REAL BARGAINS are in the "NO SALE CORRAL", where the bike does not meet the owner's reserve, and goes off the block, then, they just don't want to trailer it home again.
Usually, the owners are there, or their cell phone numbers are on the bike with a note "MAKE OFFER. As long as the auction house gets their 10%, everyone is happy... :thumb:

Sounds like an exciting place to be. I got my G5 at an estate auction, but I didn't have a lot of bidders against me so it wasn't too stressful. The biggest auction I've ever been to was Larry Klein's (R.I.P.) GT Motors Estate sale last year where I ended up getting a Le Mans SE, and that one was much higher energy with many great bikes, mostly Moto Guzzi.

It's really the Barrett-Jackson for vintage motorcycles, all 1,750 of them!! :thumb:   Some Italian-Only examples from last year!! Enjoy!! :thumb:

Don't want to crash your party but may I ask where you guys stay in Vegas? Never have been to the Mecum auction but considering attending next year. Trying to figure out the logistics.
Thanks in advance.
-
The mecum auction is held at south point casino resort. Nice place and they offer discounts for attendees. Bonhams auction is at the rio and rooms there are around $80.00 per night during the week

We always stay right at the South Pointe Hotel / Casino. Everything right there.....great bars and restaurants right on site....Discount rooms around $110 per night on Fri. / Sat. (plus tax, etc.) for the event...no need to spazz around the Strip. Come join us this year!! :thumb:
By the way, and if I am not mistaken BONHAMS moved their venue to Ceasers Palace this year.

For perspective, here are the restaurants ON-SITE at the South Pointe Hotel / Casino, and another reason why it is not necessary to leave the complex or go down to the crowded strip!! No bad meals at any of them! :thumb:

Re: Prices and value
The hammer prices listed online include fees, so the numbers are inflated. And while JJ is right about super exotic "1%" bikes (which draw a lot of attention) the auction is really about finding bargains, and they are there to be found. No silver-blue '76 Le Mans 850s for $3500, but scores of less iconic models always sell way below rate - even with fees. The same exact gambles buying an auction bike remain, so you must do your homework if looking for a specific motorcycle.
It is a lot of fun.
-
QUOTE: ....the auction is really about finding bargains, and they are there to be found.
...and, IMHO, those bargains are to be found in the NO SALE CORRAL!!

No question JJ. Local tuner TJ Jackson found his Vincent Black Shadow there during Mecum's June 2018 auction. My point is, even with extra days there's so many bikes to move the pace on stage is quick. Many bidders arrive only when the bike(s) they are interested in are to be sold, so the crowd is constantly revolving. Both in 2018 and 2019 a mint, low mile Honda Blackbird and older Suzuki GS1150 naked sold for shockingly low figures. So low, I kicked myself for not registering! There's likely a large number of bidders online at any given time, so one never knows.

For all the years we have been going, I am always amazed at what goes across the block, both HIGH and LOW - and always ask myself....why did I NOT bring about $5K-$8K to bring something interesting home?

There are a few nice bevel-drive Ducatis too:
750SS Green-frame, 900SS, 750 Sport, 750GT, less desirable, but, still a bevel, 900S2, which was the replacement for the 900SS The 900S2 is somewhat rare, 1,236 made.

Interesting... I thought that "red/white" lemans 3 sounded strange. That's a sweet 1987 Le Mans 1000 SE. Great one to bid on! I need it!! :azn:
Super excited just to look at the photos on that one, Thanks for posting follow-ups on this JJ!

I think the 850 LeMans is one of the all-time best looking bikes ever made. Other than that, I know almost nothing about the model (other than I'd own one just to look at, if no other reason) Any speculation as to how much this one will bring?

If one of those were mine I would be pulling it out of the Auction and delaying the sale - there are only so many people that can and want to spend up to $200K on a green frame, and the chances of all 5 being in the room on the same day is unlikely, you def wouldn't want the be the 4th one across the block

Excellent point.
Last January, a green frame 750ss got just shy of $250k. It was the only one offered at that auction.

JJ, would you take pictures of Lot T261 for me? 1948 Guzzi GTV. for whatever reason no pictures have been posted. https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-391658/1948-moto-guzzi-gtv/ (https://www.mecum.com/lots/LV0120-391658/1948-moto-guzzi-gtv/)
It's engine number is 77312 and mine is 77314. The were probably built at the same time. I'd like to see engine and frame numbers and details of the rocker box, magneto, foot controls and exhaust system as well as over-all pictures. If available I'd love pictures of documentation too - build date, delivery info.
My 1937 GTV has had the later 77314 engine transplanted into it - all except the flywheel which is probably from the original engine. I'd like to know as much as possible about it.
Thank you!

Thank you!
Shawn
Hi Shawn! Yes, I will if I can find it and it's not already gone! :thumb:
There are >1,750 bikes there for auction, and I will only be there Fri. and Sat. They start running bikes across the block on Tues.
I always try and photograph any and all Guzzi's...
-
Is there a way to tell which bikes are auctioned on which day?

Not sure...but I believe you are a registered BIDDER, I think they give you a program with a schedule... (??)
-
For reasons I can not explain I am attracted to LOT W306 - 1960 Moto Guzzi Galletto.
Something about that quirky design, half motorcycle / half scooter is so cool.
Wish I was there for the auction this year but won;t be able to make it.

The lot numbers are prefixed with a letter that designates what day they are scheduled for auction. [W=Wednesday; F=Friday, etc]

What does "Star" and "Feature" mean on the upper corner of each bike's photo?
"STAR" and "FEATURE" just means hese are bikes from "famous" collections...and usually means they have a high reserve price and you will pay $$ TOP DOLLAR!!$$

Hey JJ, I had posted this link on the other thread regarding the still in the crate listed Lemans 3,(consensus seems to be it's actually a later model Lemans 1000 SE?)
I thought it would be a good idea to try and keep auction related material in one spot for those interested.
This link will take you to a very well put together catalog of the 21 bikes sent to auction by the Gagnon brothers who run the Motorcycle Museum "Musee L'Epopee La Moto" in Saint Jean Port Jolie, Quebec.
I saw the link on FB for the catalog of 21 bikes, that are duplicates or surplus to their collection, they are sending to auction, interesting story on the background of the brothers and some very desirable motorcycles. A lot of nice Bimotas, 4 Guzzis, 4 Ducatis, 2 rare XR HD's, Laverda & MV Augusta etc.
The brothers have obviously done well for themselves following their passion.
Any bets if the total collection could bring in up to 7 figures if auction fever kicks in? If not how close to it?
https://cdn1.mecum.com/assets/docs/LV20_MuseeLEpopee/index.html?fbclid=IwAR1TSECFZWhGe7CnAI3iVv3YR4OUvnekF5V1XQyXo2OVRsGKHX1pY9j6xf0
They've got one of the green frame Ducs, listed, I agree with the opinion, it won't bring top dollar if there are others on the block.
Not a lot of buyers out there with 250K, and it certainly takes away from the rarity, exclusivity and cachet for the buyer/bidder if there's more than one for sale.
Enjoy
Kelly

Download the Hagerty Inside app for iOS users today (https://view.member.hagerty.com/?qs=c355f33cc63d6ea87a7226082fd0dfa3d137559d04b89c9ed611f938771f0b699814f9a801718121f730e81d48986beb215b2cee6f1826f533c7faedded376489c2381fcacd3f7495653f329dc3e5784557f4d5435202143)
Might not be video, but, at least live results.

NBCSN ( nbs sports )

Cool, thanks guys. Got the app downloaded, and TV show set to record. It appears to be televised at the end of the auction day span, probably just showing the highlights.
Either way, channel # 1604 if you have U-Verse - Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycles Sun Jan 26 5:00PM - 9:00PM NBCSN
Maybe more or re-runs on the 28th and 30th? Not sure.

For reasons I can not explain I am attracted to LOT W306 - 1960 Moto Guzzi Galletto.
Looks like this one sold for $10,000 ($11,000 with buyer premium)
Can be seen around the 7:42:00 mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sty1BvKBaHc "Mecum Motorcycle Auction - Las Vegas 2020 Day 2" (they are posting the videos of each day the day after)
Seems some these bikes are actually selling for reasonable prices. Not sure about the price on the Galetto, but I think it's probably what they are going for normally (not a Vegas gambling high price I don't think) - Lot's good stuff. Haven't watched the entire videos, but it's easy to find the lots you may be curious about.
-
Looks like this one sold for $10,000 ($11,000 with buyer premium)
Wow, that is crazy money for a Galletto. A nice one can be had in Europe for under 4000 Euro.
-

Yes, indeed....
* Add two buyers that want one...
* Add the bright lights and excitement of a MECUM auction in Vegas...
* Add alcohol to lubricate the process...and BOOM!

-
Sorry, haven't been following the Galetto market much. I do know the two Vespas P200E and the P125x sold for pretty much the going prices these days.

^ Even better! Clicked on it just in time to see a Bimota sell for 33,000!
-
I just watched lot T344 cross the block - 1981 Benelli 250 4 cylinder, sold for $15K + buyer premium, that's silly money
on the other hand a 1948 Bacon Slicer 500cc GTV sold earlier today for $13,200 and a 1953 Airone 250 went for $8260, cheap in comparison to the little Benelli.
A Benelli 900 Sei made $17600, that's more than what they have gone for in the past, maybe the 'other six' is starting to get the attention of collectors?
One that surprised me was a 1976 Yamaha XT500C - 1st year of the iconic thumper, went for just under $8K. I sold one just like it, mine was a 99 point bike, I let it go about 8 years ago for under $3500, surprised they have reached this kind of money.
-
I have to ask forgiveness.......
I’ve strayed a bit, I bought the ‘36 Terrot 350. The bike checked all the boxes for me, and was WAY too cool and too nice for the price to pass up ! Maybe someone could post a link to it for me. Had to show a lot of restraint on the the Airone sport. I want one and I thought the price was fair, I believe it hammered at $6500.
-
^ Congrats! That's what it's all about!

Jay,
Thanks for posting this.
I am somewhat surprised by the final bid, as this Le Mans is in very nice shape, by the pics. I also thought that the CX100's are fairly rare in the states.

The CX100 are not considered a "real Le Mans" by many. It was basically the Le Mans II with an SP1000 motor.
-
I don’t think the CX would achieve the same value or anything close to prices the Lemans I does, even if it had the LMII engine from Europe. It’s just not as aesthetically pleasing as the original Lemans.
-
I was surprised to see the high prices that many of the CBX brought, they have languished for so many years at the lower end. Nice to see the Laverda SFI get $13,200. The 1950 Moto Guzzi ALCE went for $9900, that seemed to be a good price.
Four green frame 74 Ducati SS offered, a big range in sale price and one that got to $195,000 was a no sale. Big money for a black 72 Ducati 750 GT - $36,300, but a 74 750 GT made $18,700.
Lots of big $$$, I wonder how many of the bikes are in tip top running condition? Seems like a big gamble to me to buy a bike at auction.
-
whats up with all these ridiculous Honda Groms/Monkey bikes.
Grown men are paying stupid money for these things - i just dont get it
-
The red white and blue MV Agusta 750 was a steal at $50,000
That was the bike...
It felt like the market for collectables has softened some as compared to riders, however. Even custom riders seemed to do ok vs restored ornaments.
-
A few Guzzi images from MECUM...All in all, another fun 2 days / 2 nights in Vegas...and that's more than enough...
That green '75 Kawasaki H1 500 2-stroke triple was just like the one I owned and rode at age 19...almost killed me! (80+ mph tank-slapper) so I sold it!  The only bargains I saw was:
* 1970 BSA Lightning for $3,500
* A mid-70's MV Agusta 750S for $35,000
* A 70's Hodaka for $1,500
Maybe a few others, but the buyers premium at 10% was additional money

I nearly fell off the stool!

I thought last years Mecum run of Honda 50's was silly, its just exploded this year and people still line up to by them. Cute but how practical are they to ride unless your under 10 years old. I still have the 1982 CT-70 my wife and I bought new from a local Honda dealer, it has under 800 km on it and has been in the garage attic for 25 years. Every other year I ask my wife to sell it and every year she wants to hang on to it. Besides the cute factor they are plentiful, easy to restore and most every single part available, regardless that does not make them desirable in my book. For the price of two monkey bikes one could have bought a V7 Sport!!!!
Different strokes for different folks, all the power to them.

The top one {incorrectly described as a Le Mans III (it's actually a 1000 Le Mans IV SE)} actually sold for $20,000 US... not $22k (a minor error).
-
The price listed includes the 10% buyers fee [$20,000+$2,000] so it's actually correct.
