Title: Source for bearings

I found this company "123 Bearing" while searching for some thin ball bearings for Aermacchi and Moto Guzzi Galleto engines, I could not find them through my usual sources so I just googled the 5 digits stamped onto the bearing and came up with this supplier.

The bearings were in stock and at about a quarter of what they were once listed for but no longer available. I also ordered the seals and some metric circlips and it all came in under a week!

They sell a lot more than bearings and the web site is great.

I had been ordering from them until they wouldn't make good on an incorrect bearing they sent me. The photo and description were what I wanted, what actually showed up was something quite inferior. When I emailed them about it, they changed the photo and description and told me I had ordered the wrong bearing. But it was right there in black and white on the receipt...

Quality Bearings Online did the same thing - sent the wrong bearing - but did own up to it and refunded my $$. Their prices are about the same, maybe better than 123 Bearing, so I'll continue to buy from them.

123 Bearings has bearings for the bacon slicer that are not available through Quality Bearings Online - but Charlie is right, they don't make good on their errors.

My first order was great.  Ordered crankshaft and layshaft bearings for the for the GTV for a good price and they arrived in 3 days!

My second order included 3 weird size bearings 18x47x14.4 (front wheel bearings) and 30x62x13 (gearbox bearing).  These sizes pre-date standardization.  Both were listed on their website at reasonable prices.  The cheap gearbox bearing was no longer available so they offered me an alternative for $15 more, then charged over $30. When I pointed out their error, they acknowledged it, but said it was still a discount so won't budge.

The package is still on it's way so I hope the bearings are as advertised! 

edit 12/03/2019: Correct bearings arrived and they have agreed to refund the difference.  I will use them again (with caution) if needed.

I'm not sure how the bearings I need for the Morini engines I'm rebuilding could be much less expensive. 6306 C3 for $11.29, NU206ECJ/C3 (roller bearing) for 47.81, 6203 - C3 4.39 ea., 6204 C3 - 5.15 ea., 6304 C3 - 6.71 ea., 6202 - 3.89 ea. All SKF Explorer, Made in Italy.

Yes, excellent prices for standard bearings.  The large crank roller (N307) is the most expensive standard bearing on the GTV - $75 IIRC. 

It's the 2 weird gearbox bearings (30x62x13 & 33x66x13) at about $75 each and the front wheel bearings (18x47x) at $33 each that are expensive and hard to find.

Good luck with 123 so far.

They stock the 28 ball double row angular contact bearings used on the 5 speed input/output shafts in the SKF Explorer series.

Could you link to those, please? I searched every way I could think of and didn't find them on 123.

You don't need the extra clearance of a C3 bearing in this application. The shafts are short, stout and stiff. C3 would defeat the purpose of the angular contact component of this bearing.
They are designed to carry the acceleration/deceleration thrust component from the helical gears.

Have you installed those? I installed an NTN 3025A in a transmission - when the case was warm (for installation) it spun fine, when everything was at ambient temperature, the bearing was very tight. Guzzi calls for C3 clearance bearings and that experience seems to bear out that they're necessary.

Running them in my T3 and V11. See notes I edited into my last post.

Shouldn't tighten up in a cold vs warm case (unless shafts are end shimmed incorrectly) . Double row bearing is anchored to shaft and case at one end. Other end of shaft is floating free so it can move laterally as temperatures change. Double row bearings were a gauge fit in the housing at room temperature.

Well, it did. No shaft in it, just the bearing in the rear cover. Cover warm - bearing spun freely, cover at room temp. - bearing tight. Pulled it out and put a C3 clearance bearing in - spun freely hot or cold. <shrug>

I've had bearings tighten up on installation but only on the Russian crap (my Ural) where the press fits are so out of tolerance they end up distorting the bearing race.
C3 definitely on my BMW /2 crank mains to deal with multiple piece crankshaft flex. C3 in a lot of other apps carrying primarily a radial load because it's all that is necessary.

When I was selling bearings (along with other things) the Explorer range was supposed to be their top of the range line.

That's why I seek them out. I only want to replace a faulty bearing once. I'm 74 and figure the Explorers will outlast me.

A positive update:  The bearings arrived from 123Bearing yesterday and are all correct.  Shipping is very quick once they ship it.

Today an email arrived telling me they would refund the $17 they had mis-quoted. 

I will use them again if they have items that cannot be found elsewhere, but I will be very cautious about substitutions and ask for an "order summary" before paying.
