I bought this G5 like in 1998 & traded it in at Gene’s Moto Guzzi in El Dorado AR. in the summer of 2000.
The bike had a faring off of an ‘89-‘90 California III full faring & was dark green in color. It was set up for a short rider, it also had a Russell Day Long seat
Just wondering if it’s sitting in someone’s shed somewhere or if it’s still on the road. I had it out in New Mexico at the National in 99’ it was a lot of fun to ride.

Interesting.. I may have the tank and side panels from that one. Were the badges painted black? Or with a black background? If so, I may have more information.
Edit: Do these parts look like they are from that bike?

It looks like it could be the parts you have but it’s been so long ago, it’s hard to know for sure. I do know the handlebars were slightly crooked. That was one running bike. It was cammed, fly wheel lightened, Dyna coils & ignition, heads were done.

Any recommendations on a shop that builds heads and lightens flywheels?

Contact Harper's.

Ozarquebus....While it's a modification that is perceived to be an improvement, why would you want to do this to your bike? How long have you had your G5? Have you ridden one with a lightened flywheel?
-
Tom,
I don't know if the lightened flywheel would be a good idea since it will just be highway riding.
I have an extra V1000 motor laying around w/o carbs and I thought I would try to rebuild it a little hotter.
Any reasonable hop up ideas? (besides timing gears, electronic ign, and all the preventative mods on this old tractor)
ie: This carb, this piston, these pipes, these heads...
"best bang for the buck" "best practices"

How long have had this G5? The reason I ask is that most new Guzzi riders find that the cheapest mod to make is resetting the ECU behind the handlebars. Change your shift point to 5K and cruise above 4K rpms. The engine idle should be at around 1100-1200 rpms. Launch your bike from a stop at about within the 2-3K rpm range. In twisties and not sweepers, 2nd or 3rd gear only. Try that before "investing money" in mods. :thumb: 5th gear at 4-5K will get you about 75-80mph.
-
OK, I wouldn't do that to the G5, I'll leave it stock. This is an extra motor off a convert I was referring to modifying..

Lightening a flywheel is not a easy or cheap mod, it is more of a final mod. It is something you would consider if you were doing a clutch already. There are many upgrades you could consider where your money would be better spent. I would do electronic ignition, Dyna coils, a cam, timing gears, upgraded suspension all before a flywheel. The G5 that I owned that was done to, I bought that way & the previous owner spent tons of money on that bike.

I would recommend Ace Malott from St Joseph, MO.
