First - Merry Christmas fellow Guzzi brethren!
I pulled apart the Bosch starter from my 850T to take a look and clean (how can something this grimy still function?). All appears to be fine once I washed away years of grit and gunk. Is there a recommended grease to apply to the bushings and lever??

On the sintered bronze bushes I just use engine oil.
Look at the armature for signs of rubbing on the pole pieces, a sign that the bushes need replacing.
A little common grease or Graphite grease on the pinion cog will quieten it down for a while.
Brushes and commutator stay dry.
The solenoid plunger should stay dry or perhaps no more than a couple of drops of 3in 1
Yes the old Bosch starters will last forever with a little TLC

I thought I would do a search for the sintered bronze bushes used in the starter
You used to be able to pick them up at a local Auto Electrician but I haven't tried lately
I couldn't find them on the www
Several sites list the brushes, I wonder how long that will last, how can you blame a local Electrician if he will only sell you a complete starter when Amazon is trying to take over the world
MG Cycle will sell you a rebuilt starter

We had better support our suppliers or they will all dry up

If you have the "157" series Bosch starter (used on Moto Guzzi and BMW), then here's a source for the bushings:

Thanks for that, I suggest if you have an old Guzzi or Beamer you buy one of their $17 overhaul kits for it while they are still available.
