Does anyone know the true numbers for the '93? The seller claims 280 US bikes, but the numbers I've seen were 283 made worldwide. Europe had them earlier than the US in '92, so that may have caused confusion? Anyway mine is number 00031. I'd be curious of other member's Daytona serial numbers.

And, no...the 280 number is wrong. Something like 28 would be more accurate.

Guzzi has a long history of referencing design details and the colors of their production models back to their race bikes. The Daytona (with its white wheels and red bodywork) is just one example.

Serial #s 0001 and #0002 went to Dave's cycle in Mesa, AZ

Those production numbers are correct, I'm sure.

But, where it all seems to break down is trying to match serial numbers to anything meaningful. Years back, I tried to jot down every serial number Daytona that came up, but gave it all up when I was up to four different Daytonas with serial number 17. When the two-seat model came out, it seems that Guzzi just recycled earlier serial numbers, but there are discrepancies even within the single-seat models.

So, while the first year Daytona was 1992, the first Daytonas imported to the U.S. were all 1993 models, but, were still given #1 and #2 serials (those being sent to Dave's Cycle in Mesa AZ). Do Guzzi serial numbers start over each year? No; I don't believe so, but their system is not straightforward.
