Hello,
I need to ship an 850T from Columbia MO to Littleton CO and I can't transport it myself.
Anyone know of a company that will do this at a reasonable rate ? Been quoted $600/$800, which is a too bit much for a $2200 bike.
Cheers

$600.-800. is about normal , the cost of shipping includes insurance and the time to pick up and drop off the motorbike . I've used friends to move bikes recently , but that was because I was willing to pay them and accepted the risk that something might happen .

I think I paid $600 to have my 1200 Sport shipped from Seattle to Bisbee back in 2009.
AF1 just quoted me $750 to ship a V85 from Austin to Tucson, to be fair I think this is just a flat rate they quote to everyone.

If you don't own your own trailer and tow vehicle and have to barrow the equipment and get help from friends your going to spend just about the same amount as having it done. I have done it both ways and the costs are very close to the same. By the time you get a rig set up, pay for fuel, meals on the road and lodging it all adds up. Even if you have good enough friends to loan you the equipment and their time at no cost. And as has been already mentioned you run the risk of something going wrong and something gets damaged or breaks down. So its pretty much a toss up. Transporting bikes long distance is not a cheap deal. Lot cheaper to ride them if you can.

Thanks people,
I managed to get a quote for $550 which was great.
Then the vendor changed his mind and decided to keep the bike. Fair enough, he would have missed it and I have a few bikes already so I have.

Thanks. I'm looking now for someone to ship a bike from Forest, VA to Spokane, WA. According to Uship.com, their lowest price for shipping a bike that route was $344, average price was $517, and highest price was $689.
First quote received today was $1800.

I never had any luck with U Ship. Some people use them all the time, but I could never figure them out. Crazy high bids that never came close to their so-called average price. Haul Bikes has always been the most cost effective for me. Although, as I've mentioned in other posts about shipping bikes, open-pallet transport has its own set of risks.

I find it impossible to believe that any carrier would haul a bike coast-to-coast for those lowest and average prices you were quoted...

I had a bike shipped with Haul Bikes from Winston Salem, NC to Seattle, WA about 2 years ago for $500. They'll almost always beat anyone else's price, that's all they do and do it very well, total professionals. I've used them to both ship and receive bikes several times over the last 15 years, with zero problems or concerns, ever.

It all depends on if the carrier has an existing delivery somewhere close with an existing load, so they can double, triple, quadruple up. One guy picked up my bike and put it in a trailer with 8 mopeds he was delivering. Another shipment, the bike went in a trailer with two pickup trucks.
They were already making money on their existing loads. My fee was just a bonus in their pockets.
As for hauling a single item that distance, I agree , no way! Unless of course it is a retired dude with lots of time.....
