Hi there
I have my eye on the Zard exhaust system for my Le Mans 1000 and wondered if any of you can shed some light on the loss of the side stand when fitting this system. According to Zard it will fit without any modification. I really like this exhaust but am not prepared to take my side stand off.

Losing the sidestand on a LeMans IV is a blessing. I removed mine when I had a Rennsport 2-1-2 installed and didn't miss it a bit. It's back on the bike now but I never use it.
Years ago, while traveling with the bike loaded up with soft bags and a pile of camping stuff on the seat I attempted to deploy the sidestand and had to lean the bike away from me to get the stand fully forward. Lost balance and it fell away from me, knocked over my buddies bike and broke my windscreen in the process.
Centerstand, all the time. Zard? Looked it up. Nice looking and a surprise to find them still available for the old Tonti LeMans. Pricey.

That would have been a real joy. Just curious... on the Lemans IV... is the sidestand 'real far forward (to the extent that you cannot reach it to deploy it while still astride the bike? On my T5 (Series III) they moved the (non-police) sidestand back... so you CAN deploy it while still astride the bike. Having said this, it is a lousy stand. You do indeed need to lean the bike to the RHS... i.e. beyond plumb. When loaded... worse. And then, when it's out.. you have to hold it out lest the return spring snap it back (denting the exhaust system.... like it did mine). Then, when planted on the ground, you need to yard-back on the bars (to extend the forks... which of course threaten to re-compress) and turn the forks to the LHS. The steering lock, of course, is OPPOSITE. You dare not park the bike on the side stand with the forks to the RHS... 'cuz the bike is near-plumb in that fork position.
So well engineered...

The LM4 side stand can be deployed astride, but does require leaning to the right. And then it touches down about 5 inches from the wheel centerline. It never feels like it has enough tripod distance, but so far in the last four years has been perfectly stable. Took me a long time to trust it.

The sidestand on my Lemans IV is the first thing I took off when I got the bike over 3 years ago. It was a dangerous POS. I spent almost $300. for a browns stand from Boxerworks. Its a beautiful piece of engineering simplicity that is the best thing to do to a LM IV., and worth every penny. I initially complained to Mark from Boxerworks that the stand hung down a bit too far when retracted. He was sent pics of my bike with the stand mounted, and he re designed the mounting plate angle to allow it to tuck in nice and tight, then he sent me the new design to try out. It was perfect , and thats what he is selling now. :thumb: Great product,and good folks to deal with at Boxerworks.
I cant get off the bike unless its on the sidestand due to a left ankle fusion. I cant pivot on one foot,and hold the bike up at the same time, so I have to deploy the stand from the seat,and then get off, so to me a great sidestand is a must, not a want.
That being said, If there was not a stand like the Browns available for the Lemans, I would not own the bike. Its that important to me.

Never liked the sidestand on my LM1000s: the only one worse than the V7 Sport/850T type. I'd put one of the earlier types on as a backup if you travel or camp with your LM1000.

I have a set of the Zard stainless steel on my 89 Lemans. They are very nice and perked up the motor. They are larger diameter than stock exhaust so yea you loose the side stand. I’m thinking about selling mine and putting a more stock system on to put the side stand back on because I want to put on hard bags and tour. I want to be able to use the side stand to get off the bike then put it on the center stand and with bags and gear It would be too much of a balancing act.

I had a look at a Zard system, then picked myself up from the floor after seeing the price. Far, far too expensive.
Being in UK, have you seen this system from OS pipes?
This is one for the LM3, but the 1000 shouldn't be much different.

It's in polished stainless, but even having it ceramic coated in black would leave you change from a Zard.

I prefer using the C-stand even with a side stand.
