I was watching a service YouTube on a V7lll and I realized when he pulled the spark plug out of that recessed area
That the hot valve cover must impact the spark plug wire. What do y’all think

No one is making fun of you bud , they are giving good advice in the form of humor . If you want "serious" all of the time WG probably isn;t the place. Hell , these guys poke fun at each other everyday , welcome to the club . Fair enough ?

I would inspect the plastic tube cover on the wire when you do your valves. If you see a spot that is wearing from contact use some electrical tape on it or unscrew the cap & replace w/something else. The tube may not even have a part #.
Is that better on subject. Campfire this week-end at TWO with Bob, come on over.

Are you old enough to know of the 1st hundred years, when there were no spark plug caps? Most electrics stuck out in the weather, somewhat close to a grounding point.
Convert the current less than ideal OEM spark plug caps to NGK's. Cut off the offending portion of the cosmetic cover and forget about a possible failure.
Avoid break downs. Arrive on time w/clean hands. Stay ahead of the problems.
BTW: A short ration of phartz came my way when I posted such blasphemy. iirc: It was inferred I had ruined my V7 III racer?
There was a teaching moment. It may be helpful to wear your leather jacket while on this list.
BTW II: You do realize the only reason Moto Guzzis' have shaft drives is because after all those years building horizontal singles they put the V twins in the wrong way. D&R Good fortune, R3~

Just trying to lighten the day.
Plug wires are insulated with very high temperature rubber, often a silicone. Yet valve covers often have paint and plastic. They don't get hot enough to burn the paint or plastic, paper or rubber gasket, and the wire insulation is good for an even higher temperature.
Ride more, worry less.

Serious comment. Don’t worry about the heat from rocker cover. That’s a total non-issue.
But do worry about the really crappy OEM rubber spark plug caps. Absolute garbage. They gave me fits and stranded me at least once. Promptly replace them with the good NGK phenolic spark plug cap.
It’s also an excellent idea to use some silicon sealant to waterproof the spark plug wires where they screw into the cap. In heavy rain, the water just runs down the spark plug wire and drains into the cap. Again, I know this from bitter personal experience.
Even after all of that, I’ve occasionally had trouble starting the bike if it has sat outside for days in super heavy windy rain. Having a small can of WD-40 on hand is a good idea. As near as I can tell, there isn’t a issue on the coils—it’s the wires/caps/plugs that can be affected by water.
