Subject says it all really. I ditched the canister on my Cali stone and wondering if I can ditch the one way check valve in the tank vent line? I’m thinking I do, but just want to ask advice. Thanks!

Hi Paul, I’m surprised nobody responded yet so I’ll chime in. I did the canisterectomy a few years back, and I got rid of the valve . I do believe you should still leave a hose and run it down under the bike someplace safe. Once in a while when I fill the tank to the tippy top while on the center stand, some gas will dribble from the hose if I don’t burn enough before I put the bike on the side stand.

OK, thanks. I did extend the hose down behind the trans area. I figured I would not need/want it in there.... but just kinda checking before I leap.. The old valve worked... but it is not vary free flowing at all..Not sure if thats normal at all though..

Some of those vent tip over valves had to be in a horizontal position to work right. I left mine on in case of a crash it may not burn.

I seem to remember a debate about the function and removal of that valve, but when I searched “canisterectomy “ I didn’t find much. There was also tank suction and pressurizing issues related? My valve didn’t do anything in any position, so the decision was easy. In any case, it has been fine for me without, but I have not tipped over completely (yet :azn:) on the Jackal.

I always looked in the book cause I can never remember which way it goes. It must be ok cause it moans once in a while.

Ya, I find vary little info on it for this era bike. I dont think many of them had it. I know when I was searching for a battery last year, they didnt even show a opting of with, or without a canister. [the canister takes up half the battery box, so the battery is smaller] That reminds me... I need to rig up some form of a battery holddown.. The small battery is now way too small for the box... and its brand new last year, so Im not getting a new bigger one yet!!

I use a piece of found high-density foam (Guzzi content) to position a smaller-sized battery properly in one of my other bikes. Could work for you!
