Never appreciated the banjo until hearing this guy. Recently I’m enamored with Rhiannon giddens ... very different banjo style but full of subtle tones and deep meaning.

Those guys are great! I actually got to hang out behind a local bar with Bela, Future Man and Vicctor LeMont Wooten one night. LOVE bluegrass music, but this is funny!

If I had to pick my #1 "banjer picker" it would be John Hartford https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+john+hartford+gumtree+canoe&view=detail&mid=01B7B0576B449BF4D6C401B7B0576B449BF4D6C4&FORM=VIRE0&ru=%2fse

I normally play guitar..badly.. And I got a banjo from my dad when he passed. Its kinda fun really. A nice change. I naturally tend to finger pick guitar with a "clawhammer'ish" style, so the picking part came fast to me. the rest... well lets just say im no better at it then guitar. Its a fun change though.

My favorite. Although that FMB is a classic.

If you get a chance to visit this place in Arkansas, Ozark Folk center, well worth a visit, one of the nice surprises was some live music. I hopped over here after last year's Cedar Vale rally, and was treated to some wonderful banjo/dulcimer/guitar music. The guy in the picture if I remember correctly was the 2 time Senior Claw hammer Banjo champion...truly amazing music.

Was fortunate to be living in Nashville during the early '60s. Martha White flour sponsored thirty minutes of Flat & Scruggs each weekday. Great pickin' that I remember to this day!

Anyone need a velocity stack?
-
^^^^ Just looking at it, I *assume* it's pretty valuable?
-
Hey Chuck,
I dont know what value this would be, my grandfather built about 6 custom banjos in the 70's. This was the most novel one "amplified". But he did a bass and a double neck also.

Great post...perfect music for my day...Thanks!
Whoda thunk a New York City boy would change the way the banjo was played and perceived!! I've seen him many times in varied versions of bands...but with the with the Wooten Bros Victor and Roy and the Flectones always my favorite...They came to Interlaken last summer and their performance was stellar.
-
If not mentioned before~ Roy Clark ; better than just good!!!
-
I've been very poorly learning the banjo over the last few years. It is quite fun. Mostly influence from old bluegrass.
-
Sorry, but this had to happen. Banjo jokes. From a mediocre guitar player, no less.
What's the difference between a Banjo and a Moto Guzzi? You can tune a Guzzi.
What's the difference between a banjo and a chain saw? The chain saw has dynamic range.
Between a banjo and an onion? No one cries when you cut up a banjo.

Or Learning to play a banjo and bagpipes is the same, you only need to learn 3 songs and nobody can tell them apart.
