Title: '89 Cal III fork seal question
Post by: Dave Bell on March 20, 2020, 12:35:00 PM
I'm rebuilding the forks.  I managed to get the old fork seal out with much difficulty, and of course destroyed them in the process.  Previous owner had bought 2 sets of seals and dust caps and I have those.  However, the seals seem to be too big.  I can not see how they could possibly fit.  They measure 55 mm on the outside and 40 on the inside.

I should add that I've replaced a lot of fork seals on other bikes and never had a problem.

Has anyone else thought they had the wrong seals and then somehow miraculously figured out a way too get them to fit?

Thicker, yes there were some replacements that had 2 lips in 1seal to replace 2 seals w/1 lip.

the progressive springs I got are in one piece.  I can't use them.  As they compress they jump from one side to the other and make a loud pop.  Im sure the old ones are fine.
