Being it is still winter in most of Canada and having been recalled from the valley of the sun in Arizona to the frozen white north I have a lot of time on my hands these days. A host of maintenance projects await attention from replacing fuel lines, cleaning carburetors and adjusting steering bearings to name a few. It’s a great opportunity to get bikes that have been neglected of small jobs done. Yesterday I started to replace the brake shoes and wheel bearings on my 1972 Benelli 180 enduro, one thing led to another and now the frame and swing arm are going off to the powder coated, perhaps a bit extreme but idle hands are the devils plaything😉
What’s keeping people busy in their shops?

Thats a neat project, Charlie! Lots of cool engineering touches on that bike. Very unique engine design. That bike would look impressive all restored. :thumb: :thumb:

Police Ambo is on the lift. Way over due for general maintenance- Fluids (dropped the sump), heads torqued and valves, fuel lines, cable lubes and a good detailing.
V7 Sport is up next for the same.
This neglect is typical after buying a brand new motorcycle. My focus tends to be on riding the new one as much as possible.

With the delivery slowdown, Im delayed waiting on parts. Luckily I the got most important ordered before last Friday so what should have arrived by now should be here tomorrow. Tire from Dennis Kirk, usually one day I ordered yesterday might still show today. Stuff from MG cycle, usually one day hasn't showed yet but the main thing is the needle bearing for the rear drive is coming from ABC bearings in France, normally would have been here yesterday.

Today I installed my Gustoffson fairing and installed the Yamaha YZF headlight on my Quota. Of course it’s all apart right now so I can’t start it up to see how much of a difference it makes.

I thought Roy's Griso was an unconventional Adventure tourer, but yours takes the cake, obviously it's not the bike, but the rider.
I just hope you could ride out the end of that road and didn't have to turn around.
Nice to see you're out riding, I've still got ice in my laneway and bikes on the lift.

Hey Nick, That's nice looking territory, I usually don't go south of 7, but I got down as far as Parham last year, just north of the area you were in.
I don't envy you cleaning all those nooks and crannies in the plastic, you'd definitely want to stay upright, I've struggled getting my DR650 unstuck in the mud.
Hey Jim, Sorry for the thread drift, I was hoping I'd have some actual work done before I posted, :popcorn: but I'm still moving workbenches, tables, parts and tools, have 2 more LED shop lights left to hang. :angel:
As I move parts and supplies, I'm finding where some of the mice have been nesting, they were kind to me; they had built a nest in the box where I kept my gaskets stashed, but they chose to use newspaper and dog hair for bedding instead of my gaskets, so that worked out well :thumb: :evil:
I've got the V11 on the lift, will be torquing the heads, tuneup with a new map (fingers crossed), general servicing, Roper Plate, MPH Risers, MRA screen, new tires & exhaust, have some tranny work to do, but I might hold off in case Chuck does up a batch of "Phil's tranny lever extensions".
On the CalVin, will be doing fluids & tune up,map (fingers crossed again,lol), new exhaust, and as much as I'm dreading it, fork boots and seals.

Doing all kinds of odd and ends. Some maintenance some mods. Just got the de-cat'ed headers back on one bike next is working on an aux fuel cell. Going with a cookie cutter 3.5 gallon for now. Working on a design for a custom quick connect 4+ gallon cell.
Shooting for a 400+ mile range. I hate stopping for fuel.

I got the Benelli 175 Enduro frame, swing arm and handle bats back from the powder coated yesterday. All the other painted metal parts were powder coated in my shop with my Eastwood kit. Spokes were factory painted, I stripped the wheels, vapour blasted the spokes and sprayed them with a silver rust paint then baked them at 200 degrees for a couple hours. i took a piece of thin steel plate and drilled lines of holes through to run the spokes through to hold them in place for cleaning and painting.

The chrome rims were Vapor blasted inside and out then polished just a little before reassembled then after trying the rim and spokes shot with automotive clear coat and baked again in the oven
The silver coating on the lower triple is Silver Linen, it has a bit of a hammer tone finish. The only chrome bits on the bike other than shift lever, kick starter and rear rack are the steering stem cones, I powder coated these with Chrome powder, doesn’t really look like chrome but it will do

The fork ears, tank and side panels are original paint and the stainless steel fenders polished up to a nice shine.

Pulled everything out yesterday and gave all four a short ride, was very windy and about 65 degrees. Left everything in the driveway and gave the garage a good sweep down and mopped the floor. Brought each one back in and gave them a good wipe down with just some quality spray wax and mico towels, here in Virginia we are reaching pollen peak and everything is going to end up green anyway. Put everybody back to bed and covered them.
The only one really due for current maintenance is the Cally 1400 Touring. Oil is due for a change, sadly due to time, not mileage. Finished up the Rocket 3 a couple of weeks ago under the same circumstances, when the oil was drained it looked brand new. I have the oil filter for the MG, just waiting on the oil to arrive. I ordered Motul 10w60 full synthetic on line, since the only thing I could find around here in that range was the Castrol Edge and maybe I am overly protective, but without the 4t on the jug, I opted for the Motul, I know it is overkill but just my personal preference. Probably going to flush the brake fluid, change the gearbox oil, and it should be good to go.
I still have the old vintage Honda project on the burner also, so basically I am in the garage everyday, thank goodness. I am just not the type that can set and read or spend hours in front of the the television. I also have taken to long stroll through the neighborhood each evening and find it really enjoyable, a good way to get away from the friggin barrage of negativity blaring 24/7......

Lots to do, some rewiring, new carbs and general upgrading.
There are plenty of other motorcycles here to maintain as well however, just maintenance. Guzzis mostly, couple of Hondas and the HD..

The Benelli 175 Enduro cycle parts are all back together, waiting for an order of engine case roller bearings to arrive so I can reassemble the motor.

Glad to have a project to work on during these time’s of isolation. I have mild symptoms of the virus, my wife much more serious but she is past 14 days and getting better. We have to isolate until all symptoms are past.

Painting.
I'm starting my Guzzi project with a few black parts hanging in the foreground. There are primered '82 Honda C70 body parts further back, and a repainted '76Yamaha XS500 seat pan on the table (Repainted because I'm replacing the seat cover and since all the hardware is off and I've cleaned up the brackets and hardware and bolts and washers and you know how it goes.)
