Title: USPS problems? [SGC]
Post by: CT Dharma on April 06, 2020, 03:02:14 PM
Anybody else having issues with recent USPS package delivery? I am usually a big fan of our postal system and often marvel how you can send a letter across this country in a few days for $.55. But I'm currently waiting on delivery of new oil filters and a battery for my V10 and both packages [different suppliers] are now apparently 'lost' somewhere in the system. Both have tracking numbers and both are in the ominous "in transit to next facility" stage for over a week. I have tried contacting the USPS but are getting nowhere other than the follow-up email asking if I was satisfied with their response [what response?!]. Have filed non-delivery claims with EBay and I'm sure I'll get my $$ back but frustrating nonetheless.

Is it just me?

I think it's because of lot of the facilities are operating on essential staff, which means just people to keep things running. I had an issue as well last week getting a package for work (our building is currently closed), but I was able to track it down eventually as the USPS online told me it was on hold at the post office, but involved me going to the post office they told me to go to, for them to tell me to go to the upstream distribution hub to go get it. Not the best time for anything right now...

The USPS is working with a skeleton crew at the moment , you might be aware that we are experiencing some difficulties . I would be patient , and marvel that there are people willing to show up right now so your package can be delivered . Fair enough ?

I have three orders from Europe that are not even moving.  One of which arrived in country on March 7th but hasn't moved; I thought about going to the local post office to see what they have to say, but that doesn't seem like such a wise choice at this present time.

Working great for me.. I ordered a few things from MG cycle, and had it in my driveway within 4 days.  Talking to a friend that pounds the pavement, hes swamped..  Lots of people not going to stores, and are mail ordering.

I haven't had any problems with orders from MG Cycle via the post office or domestic deliveries from UPS, Fedex, etc. Just international shipments which are  going through NYC or wherever they are coming in from Europe.

I had some USPS stuff end up in a holding pattern at a big distribution center in Chicago, but after a few days it sorted itself out and arrived intact.

It's a busy hectic time in the delivery world.

     Good luck with it

I ordered two items on the same day, the 27th of March. One from Denmark and one from So Cal. They are both the same size. The one from Denmark was shipped by DHL and the one from So Cal USPS. I got the one from Denmark on the 31st. I am still waiting for the one from Cal. Tracking said it was at my PO on Saturday but not in my box as of 4 p.m. this afternoon. Oh well, the one from Denmarl was for the bike, "important", the other not so much.

No problems out in the deep deep south that's in the far out west of the country.

I have one package that's gone AWOL--I'm hoping it'll show eventually. All others have shown up at the usual speeds--pretty impressive considering the situation with volume and personnel shortages.

Its not just  you.  A month ago I ordered a package from MG-Cycle.  They posted Priority Mail and it was here in California in 48 hours.   A week later I ordered another package from them.  The second package was posted First Class.  Took almost three weeks.  Stuck in Chicago for some reason.  With great customer support, MG-Cycle offered to send me duplicates and did so by Priority Mail.   Of course, the first/lost package showed up the next day with the replacements showing in less than 48 hours the second day.  I just had to mail back the duplicates.  I spoke several times with Rick.  Apparently, the USPS uses 'space available cargo' on commercial airlines to move our mail.  Since most of the planes and routes are grounded, it is a lot harder to find transport space.  Whatever space IS available gets taken by Priority packages and First Class has to wait.  When ordering from ANYONE, it is worth the few extra dollars to specify Priority Mail.

BTW, several years ago someone from Austin, TX gave me some free, hand-me-down tickets to Moto-GP at Laguna Seca.  Posted to me in a Priority Mail envelope.  Post marked out of Austin TWO WEEKS in advance of the races.  Arrived here the Monday AFTER the races.  I complained loudly to the USPS.  First class envelope at that time was about 40 cents.  Priority envelope was $5.  What the heck did we actually get for the extra $4.60?  USPS says it was still within their guarantee window.  That one still stings.

With social distancing and more people at home more people are ordering stuff. I would give it another week or two before I go filing claims.

I have to revise my previous statement.  Seems the crankshaft sensor that I ordered was in Riverside, CA.  Yesterday it got sent to Cincinnati, OH for shipment to Kona, HI.

Thanks everyone, misery loves company! Went down to my local PO today and they ran an internal tracking report. They don't know where the package is either.

Several packages per week delivered here.  No postal delays.

My guess is there are regional differences.  Some distribution centers running light, due to current events.

UPS has kept delivering packages to a guy who lived 2 houses South , he has been gone at least 8 years , and at the moment the house is
unoccupied . I grabbed the last large box and watched for the delivery driver , he came by yesterday and seemed surprised someone was returning it . Had made repeated phone calls to UPS to no avail , but did manage to track down the addressee . At least the USPS has someone who will listen .

I am still waiting for an item that I ordered almost two weeks ago. I checked with the post mistress yesterday. She says they are having trouble getting a lot of things on time. She says Amazon Prime has a lot to do with it. They have a contract with the postal service which gives Prime priority over everything. So if a truck, plane etc is full with Prime shipments the rest has to wait for the next one. Go figure.

I had to just put in the 6th change of address for the office.  We're in the "Kealakekua Post Office Building" (official name) in Kealakekua, HI.  The PO is literally a paper clip throw across the hallway from us.  It use to be that mail in the same zip code would stay at the local office but they don't sort anymore.  The sorting is done by a distribution center in Honolulu.  The mail is bagged up in 70lb gold bags and taken to the airport and flown out to Honolulu.  25 miles from here by truck then air flown to Honolulu 160 miles NW sorted then reverse process back to Kealakekua for that zip code.  Crazeee!  No wonder they're delivering packages for Amazon.

To answer the question about delivery.  It's slower but I have received part that I have ordered.  I'm still waiting on masks ordered for the office but that's a little different.  Ebay orders seem to be quicker than Amazon.

I reckon they’re great.
I just got two BMW clutches, from the ‘States and they took about two weeks, very good considering all that’s going on..
Then they hit a wall in Oz about 100 k from home.

This is what has happened to my order, Teo Lamers shipped it on time and it's probably? in US Customs but it's also in no man's land. Can't contact customs and US Postal Service knows nothing until the package is released.

Totally forgot about U.S. Customs Cargo.  Had to work with them a lot at Honolulu International Airport.  Philippine Airlines and Korean Airlines.  PAL for illegal shipments for banned items and drugs.  KAL for counterfeit manufactured goods.  The inbound mail would be inspected by them.  If mailed.  Your package would be segregated with the "other" packages from a known country with drug importation.  An inspector would open your package to check for contraband.  That would be the road block.  Commercial shipments would get released first then smaller packages.  Depends on what airport it would transit through.  The inspectors move at their own pace.  :embarrassed:  At least they're faster than French Customs inspectors or Japanese Customs.  Those guys really move slow especially to "Ugly Americans".     KLM to JFK and it sits in the bonded "cage" or locked storage area until someone that's authorized from KLM airfreight to take it over to U.S. Customs.  The U.S. Mail guys don't want till it clears Customs. KLM won't take it over till they have a number of items to clear Customs.

You guys are scaring me. Two or three days ago I ordered a clutch kit from MG Cycle - hope it arrives this week! Glad I didn't order it from Stein Dinse. From what I'm hearing here - I could have been waiting on that one till end of summer.

FWIW, Three weeks ago I ordered a couple of items within a day or two of each other.
- USPS delivery from Livonia, Michigan took 2 weeks
- USPS delivery from San Jose, Ca. took 3 days

Considering --19, crazy weather, etc., it's all good, no complaints here!

Yep, I’m guessing my Lemans Headers are sitting in some cage waiting for “SomeGuy” to walk it over to the appropriate window.

I've been waiting for a *really* long time for an airplane (some assembly required)  to get here from Texas. I understand.. really, I do. USPS, FedX and SIAI  were all involved. Finally, Jen.. the girl that took over from Ed the Rocket Scientist (RIP) called yesterday, and said, "I have a big box in the back of my truck. I thought it was a steel mill header, but it's for you. Do you want me to bring it down?"
Uhh, yeah. The shipper had the phone number *and* address wrong.. but it eventually got here.  Yay..

Something to keep in mind is that everyone is ordering delivered goods A LOT more than before. I’m kicking myself for not investing in Shopify, etc. at the start of this thing. A lot of package companies are dealing with Christmas holiday level volumes right now. I’m having good luck with domestic orders, international I can imagine is going to be much more problematic.

USPS delivered.  Non-Prime.  Amazon ordered car part on the 19th got it yesterday 23rd from San Jose, CA to Kailua-Kona, HI 1st class.  Free devlivery.  Seems to be working no problems.

Deliveries from out of country morph into something different.   U.S Fish & Game, DEA, U.S Customs, Fed. Ag. & Depart. of Health concerns kick in.  INS gets involved if the shipper consignee is foreign national & the delivery is illegal  We also have State Ag. requirements inbound domestic and international shipments.
