Title: ***Dealers who stock parts for California 1100's***
Post by: n8mandy on April 07, 2020, 12:22:25 PM
Receiving parts on any regular time frame is always an issue.

Does anyone know of dealers that do a good job backstocking parts so that, even in normal times, one doesn't have to factor in the MGPDF* into their timelines?

*Moto Guzzi Parts Delay Factor

Thanks all.

Between MGCYCLE and Harpers, I have pretty good luck.

Parts delay?  Our dealer is only 30-40mi from warehouse. It goes that day if they call before 11am. Next day stuff if you are in a hurry. I just don't like the drive there.  But in a hurry, Guzzi Marietta, GA    Usual things I keep in stock and get from MG in WI

We do our best to keep many parts on hand. Truthfully, however many of the needed bit are just becoming not available. Piaggio has stopped supporting any models over 7 years old. We maintain our stock levels from as many overseas vendors as we can, but even they are having trouble locating or manufacturing parts for machines with such small production numbers. What parts are you looking for exactly?

This is exactly why you just cant have one Guzzi, you need a number of them, when one or more are down you just continue on with another until you can manage to have the broken ones repaired. :thumb: DonG

That is exactly why I would like to find a cheap used V7II or III. It is not easy to find a used Guzzi of almost any model in my neck of the woods. Most are priceless classics in the owners eyes or low mileage bikes priced at retail or better prices.

Inventory consumables in your own garage, and you'll have no delay.  Don't wait until oil change time to order the filter and gaskets.  Clutch cables.  Etc.

Ive yet to have a issue with anything... Granted its a low mile bike, and I have only needed maintenance stuff...  Between MG, Harpers, and Hamlins, Ive always been able to get what I need.

To add to whats been said also..  Some stuff you really should have in your own back stock..  Start buying a extra of things you use often. Oil change stuff.. valve cover gaskets, a extra fuelair filter..  A few bits of replacement hardware for when a allen bolt gets rounded off.. Basic stuff. SOme stuff is general..  Like my 02 California brake pads are just off the shelf Brembos used in a TON of different bikes. Start a notebook with cross reference parts info for the future.  You can never know the odd ball stuff that will go.. Like launching a rear end, or tranny...But having the maintenance stuff, and knowing what parts are just generic off the shelf will serve you well.

I have spare bikes for parts and no, I'm not parting them out to sell the parts.   Consumables...I always ordered 2 of.   :thumb:  The so-called dealer is only a bike sales oriented place.  They don't do any servicing.
