Title: April 15 CT-RI Breakfast changed to...Social-Distancing Ride
Post by: SLDMRossi on April 08, 2020, 11:58:18 AM
So here's the plan, instead of a Third-Sunday-of-the-Month Connecticut-Rhode Island Breakfast:

- Meet out in front of The Whistle Stop (Rte. 154, Deep River CT) at 10:00 AM...not 8!
-Park 6-feet away from one another, with helmets and gloves remaining on.
-Run over and get a cup of coffee if you so desire...if they're open.
-Head out on an impromptu, low-speed twisty two-lane ride (that I'll lead, and figure out as we go along).
-End up at a State Park, and park...6-feet apart.
-With helmets and gloves still on, go check out a cool Waterfall.
-Head off on your own, to do whatever...after.

OK?

I was thinking this would be a good alternative. Count me in weather providing.

I get it...but..

Cuomo, "it's great motorcycle weather, I get it, but not now.."

I have to stand with those that are staying home, or travel alone...

I see a lot of sense about thinking of those who might have to help you as a distraction to their job, instead of the real demand at the ER..

The fun motorcycle keys are parked, the useful utilitarian two wheels are in action..

25 mph cruising my neighborhood, waving, on mopeds, meeting new, unknown and unseen neighbors is making this work for me. Just acknowledging each other seems to have taken on a lot of meaning these days.

I've seen groups of bikers swarm thru here in New Haven, and it just don't seem right to be having all that much fun, it just looks and feels...off.

Nice to see my friends, indeed, but..I can't risk others lives if I have it, and I can't risk my life if I don't.

Sitting on my hands.."don't just sit there, do nothing!"...

I hear what your saying Chuck,  but mix in a couple of old 2 strokes burning 32 to 1  :bike-037: that should pretty much kill anything in the air. Just kidding, stay safe.

Ok, so this event would sort of be like a Tiddler tour except with no Tiddlers...

May have to plan my Saturday trip to Hamlin's to coincide with this.  Will keep an eye on the weather, it's a looong ride for me.

But you DA'MAN Cam, if anyone can do both you can.

I may make the trip up to Jim's just to get out and about.

Thanks, Joe. Unlike a TT, we'll probably just ride for an hour, or so. And again, no lunch stop...

Crikey! If Cam is coming up I'm going down. If the state of MA still can't get their act together I'll be riding something made 'neath the rising sun.  R3~

Correct.  I go to Hamlin's for work on bike Saturday, and usually stay overnight up there.  I'll be keeping my eye on the weather forecast this week.  Not looking great right now.  It's a shitty 4 hour ride, all slab, up to his place.  Another hour east to Whistle Stop.

To reiterate the plan:

- Meet out in front of The Whistle Stop (Rte. 154, Deep River CT) at 10:00 AM...not 8!
-Fill up with fuel before you get there.
-Park 6-feet away from one another, with helmets and gloves remaining on.
-Run over and get a cup of coffee if you so desire...if they're open. No group breakfast.
-10:15 AM...Head out on an impromptu, low-speed twisty two-lane ride (that I'll lead, and figure out as we go along).
-Ride will be about 1-hour, again...follow the leader. No Route instructions. No stop along the way.
-End up at a State Park, and park...6-feet apart.
-With helmets and gloves still on, go check out a cool Waterfall.
-Pack a lunch if you want, and sit under a tree.
-Head off on your own, to do whatever...after. Again, No group lunch.

A good time was had by all, and the weather was beautiful...as was the scenery. While we very much protected our personal well-being, we simultaneously contributed to our mental health.

Three showed up, while there were four in spirit:

Breva 750
BMW RT
Saab Convertible

and...a LeMans III that unfortunately encountered mechanical gremlins on the way there.

P.S. -- Chapman Falls at Devils Hopyard was spectacular!

Glad you had such a nice day. I started up the Centauro to get some fluids moving but watching it sitting there idling, I just had to grab my helmet and gloves and go for a little spin around town. Beast of a bike.
