Title: Throwout Bearing Design
Post by: pehayes on April 09, 2020, 11:38:01 PM
The 5-speed LoopFrames and Tontis all came from the factory with a 3-piece clutch throwout bearing sandwich.  Composed of steel rollers in a capturing cage with hardened race washers, one on either side of the roller cage.  Worked well and mostly seemed to last forever as long as you didn't tension up the clutch cable.  Modern replacements are different.  The captured rollers are now an integral with one of the race washers so only one additional race washer is provided.  I don't like the new design.  Twice I have had these newer bearings bind and spin the outer body to also spin out the adjuster pin in the transmission actuating arm.  Bad juju going down the road.  Does Guzzi or anyone else sell the original 3-piece setup?  Anyone have similar experience with these bearings?  I can't find any information as to which way one should orient the washer and the roller cage although I can't think of a technical reason why that would matter anyway.

In the modern smallblock, the thrust bearing is a three piece, and doesn't look any different from the one in the Cali Classic I caught a glimpse of today. The original on the V7C (& Breva & Nevada) GU12087001 had 2 cup-shaped washers enclosing the bearing. The new, replacement one (2A000376) has what looks like flat washers, not cupped. They are supposed to be more robust. Time will tell.

From This Old Tractor:

22 mm size

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the inner body of your throw out assembly has a protrusion that must slide through the inner diameter of the bearing, then this bearing will not work for you. Please check before ordering as some will work and some will not.

Patrick, with a group of NOS parts I bought several years ago was a Thrust bearing Part # 30-12087001. This is a three piece design.  The measurements are as follows:

       Roller   .859" OD  .397" ID .078" THK
Plate    .859" OD .397 " ID .039"  THK  Both plates are flat.

Hope this helps and if you need this one let me know.
