I have a spare transmission for my eldorado that came from a g5, it has the extra casing underneath for the shift shaft but the speedo gear is in the inboard area of the gearbox cover. I realize it will interfere with the battery tray. without looking at the other parts can I just modify the battery tray with a hole for the speedo cable or are there other parts that may be in the way
thx

You'll need a smaller than stock battery most likely.

I figured the battery was in the way too, with my busted up eldo transmission in the rebuild phase, can I just swap the gearbox cover from that onto the g5 transmission? would shimming need to be checked or can the gearbox covers just be swapped around with no adjustment necessary?
thx

You should be able to swap the covers without any other changes, but if you have means to, it would be best to measure the distance to each bearing from the gasket surface on both covers and compare.

because the layshaft pulls tight to that bearing which may or may not have and impact on where the shift fork fits on the sliding gear sleeve, right?

Yes.

im actually glad (kinda) that the transmission is a wreck. otherwise id never have opened it up and learned how it works. kinda like a very expensive lesson, still need to learn proper shimming
