Such nice days for riding these days, great way to burn off any cabin fever stress with exercise! Let’s see what you have in the way of non motorized wheeled fun! Doing a little maintenance on the unicycles, time for some fresh tires. Doing 4-5 time per week small loops of 5 to 10 miles in the neighborhood to get some fresh air!
Road bike is a R800 Cannondale, about 25 years old in great shape, carbon fiber forks, seatpost, handlebars, set of incredible Bontrager wheels with several thousand miles on them over the last 15 years and still perfectly true and a decent seat to save the cojones!
Mountain bike...doing double duty as a trailer puller for the little one, is a 29'er Hardock Specialized...with adjustable front forks, no rear suspension, decent for moderate trails, not hardcore stuff, but will go offroad very nicely with fat grippy tires.
The other little contraption is a folding bike, not a Bianchi as I had originally looked for but a somewhat cheap imitation for just having fun around the neighborhood...too short of a distance from seat to pedal to actually get any speed on it.

I sure don’t see unicycles much anymore, always wanted to try one. Stupid question....do you start with training wheels or out riggers, or is it like snow boarding where you just have to take your lumps and bruises and in a few days you get it or quit? At 65 I can still ride some bikes no handed and practice every chance I get.
I saw a you tube video not long ago of a guy dressed as Darth Vader, playing a bag pipe while riding a unicycle, that guy was talented.

Not a stupid question at all, very much a question of practice, practice and practice. I started riding when I was 10, it took me a couple of weeks to be able to ride about 15 feet w/o falling off, and that was many many hours of just getting in one revolution and falling, another revolution and falling. Once you learn the balance, then you go exponentially farther, once you can do 10, 15 feet, then going 100 feet, then around the block, the skill grows quickly.
Next steps are to learn to "rock" which is to go back and forth with a 1/2 revolution, and then learn to ride backwards (body balance and control is key to not falling backwards and hitting your head). A helmet is advised!.
After that, you can incorporate juggling, playing an instrument, riding in parades, playing basketball or frisbee...fun times!
The big one, called a Giraffe, is definitely much more dangerous from a falling perspective, I've had that one since I was 14, same unicycle, and it took me about 4 years to get really good on the short one before I even attempted a larger one.

If that 24" vintage Schwinn (1968?) is still your current ride, you owe it to yourself to try a new model. It's really like comparing a Schwinn Varsity from the same era with a current road bike--night and day. And, the newer gel seats with integral grab handle in the front are vastly better than the plastic-covered peanut seat that Schwinn used. On the other hand, that Schwinn is a genuine classic (and was once the best you could buy) and neat to see.
mine is a 26" Nimbus with 3" knobby tire--it's pretty bad on pavement (far too much grip), but nice on dirt.

Well, we're happy with old Schwinns. Never did mountain bikes. We grew up riding bikes in the pastures, woods and hills on the farm. Plenty of BMX Evel Knevil stuff.
Fast forward to 1994. I ended up as a chef in New Orleans with all my worldly belongings including vehicles & motorcycles left far away. There was a late Chicago-made Schwinn Daytona Cruiser for free in the backyard. Got the parts and rediscovered riding bikes. Gave the bike to the young chef who took my place when I left for NC. A couple of years later, I replaced it with a circa 1972 Schwinn Heavy Duti that was $5 at the scrapyard, which is during the blurry years of the Heavy Duti bikes. I added wheels and my favorite folding Wahl saddlebag baskets & rack from my Schwinn in NOLA. I would like to have the proper wheels, but original heavy rims have gotten too expensive for my needs. Nearly all of our riding now is at campgrounds while camping.

We found a 26" 1962 Schwinn Hollywood for our daughter. She's not into pink. We had plans to redo it a couple of years ago but now says she wants it just like it is.

I sold my 1930's Hawthorne and MBK Trainer 14 speed road bike that I didn't ride anymore about a year ago. But there's still a 1970's Schwinn unicycle hanging in the rafters of my shop down back, waiting for anyone who brags about what they can do on one....

This is my Argo, it converts more or less any bike into a cargo bike.
Its from a guy in America who seems like a great bloke called Scott. He has a website
I whacked it onto a cheap Chinese 250 watt eBike and I absolutely love this thing. Its not as good in the handling as a dedicated cargo bike , but they can run out to $10K AUS easily whereas this one was about $1000
I absolutely love riding this thing, next to the 3 Geese in my garage its my favourite thing.I often ride it to our MGCoV meetings! PS my grandkids vote with their feet, they love it

Oh this is interesting, and nice to see an old Zefal pump...that brings back memories of building bikes in the 70's. Those things would get HOT when pumping up a tire, and only occasionaly had to replace the rubber seal inside to keep the air moving.
Tell me more about that adjustable gooseneck you have...who makes that please? Looks like it has quite a few adjustable positions.
Classic gear shifters at the bottom of the handlebars...those were the signs of a pro racer in the 70's after moving them from the down pipe...beautiful classic indeed!

Thanks DAniel...funny you should mention the Nimbus...I've been on Unicycle.com today getting a replacement seat post for my Schwinn (had bought it mid 70's but i suppose it might be a 60's design...still solid as a rock, bearings perfect, no slop in the pedals, just time for a new tire! I'd like to try out one of the new Nimbus riders, and I can see you've got a lot more rubber for offroad or jumping curbs. Nice compare of old vs. new! Thanks!

I'd like to try out one of the new Nimbus riders
The thing that surprised me most is how much faster I was going (just compare the OD of the tire and it's obvious why). That took time to get used to. You'll want to maintain the same cadence as before; it's just that now you'll be keeping up with the trail runners (or passing them).

Scratch built this one somewhere around 1985 after hanging around for a bit with the Avatar 2000 builders. Fun project. It's all Reynolds 4130 except for the two long tubes which are aircraft 4130. Seat and steering are all 7075 aluminum. Most comfortable way to ride the RI Club's 200 miler. Now I cruise it around the Florida bike trails with all the other old people all winter. Down there a recumbent isn't that uncommon.

I had one and was proficient at it. I hopped on one a few years ago and picked up the "balance" quickly. It's like riding a bike... Once you know how, your only a little rusty when you hop back on!

Like the Itchy Boots series with Noraly, I followed Ed Pratt's Youtube series when I had some free time (not nearly as polished, but still quite a number of cool adventures as he unicycled around the world in 3 years on a 36 inch uni...quite a feat!) Some of you might enjoy his youthful adventures too!

That's an interesting one...looks like a 3 speed judging by the chain going thru the rear hub...almost has the look of a folding bike, but I don't see any hinges on it. Lovely blue!

I ride a Trikke, actually I have three. Great fun: no pedals, chain or seat. Nice work out. It's a cambering vehicle that's propelled by angular momentum.

Makes perfect sense....2 x Pi x r....same cadence, farther distance.

Now that looks like fun....what's the gearing like on that trike?
8 spd derailleur with 3 spd internal hub. Some come with 90 speeds (10 spd cassette, 3 internal, 3 in the front chainwheel).
I use 2 on the cassette and the 3 internal gears for 99% of my riding.

4-speed Sturmey Archer hub gear. Not a folding frame but has sprung front forks and swing arm and rubber block rear suspension plus very high pressure tyres. Was just the thing in swinging sixties London and now fairly sought after. It's a bit wierd to ride with those tiny wheels but rolls very nicely.

Also have recently acquired a recumbant excercise bike for the home gym, problem is it's missing the control panel so can't programme in any resistance but I've made it my 'mission' to source the parts and get it running - or at least my Wife has... :thewife:
