Reconditioning a Marelli distributor. part number S311A. from an 80s Lemans.
Any particular reason why guzzi chose 1.5mm cables from the coils to dizzy?
Isn't that overkill? practically speaking will 0.5mm work just as well?
thanks as ever

The OEM coils at only 3 ohms drew a few amps . Do you but wire in the way you measure it (mm) ? I've only
ever bought wire by gauge size here in Canada and many places in the US . Have no idea how your measures
compare , Peter
ps; I own a Le Mans 2 (37 years)

1.5mm is 15awg.
I've always used the csa in mm² to measure wiring (in the UK).

Might have to do with how much the points need. I have never in the world ever thought of this subject. It would be kinda cool to know though.

It's not got anything to do with what the points need , but how much they can handle , the ignition coil's primary resistance determines how
much current goes through the points to ground . Lower primary resistance passes more current , and more current appreciates heavier gauge wire .
