Title: Did WW2 end in 1947?
Post by: Canuck750 on May 03, 2020, 06:18:47 PM
Brit folding mini bike, Brockhouse Corgi, similar to the 44' paratroop model described as a 1947 WW2 bike.

That't the late model. Note the circuit breaker kickstand.

Its secondary function was as a para-drop smoke screen generator with that 20:1 oil mix.

Still, I can imagine the day when dear old dad took us down to Shanks army surplus and there was one of these beside the $50 Jeep packed in 55 gal drums of Cosmolene.

My old '48 G3L Matchy had "the last of the wartime" designed engines in it.  Head used to get so hot it would cause the exhaust valve stem to carbon up on a regular basis.  Head was cast iron.

Went like stink for a 350 though.  My bro tends to remind me that one evening running late to pick up his Vincent mag that he peered over my shoulder and we were sitting on 85mph. :thumb:  In a drag it would take down the 500 single.

Maybe they're thinking of the Greek civil war as an extension of WW2?

Maybe it was found in a battlefield in 1947. Sure looks like a combat veteran...

There was a later version of the Welbike , the differences were very small , this could be one of those , although to describe it as a WW2 Corgi is then inaccurate .

Interesting.  British 2-cycle version of the (more common?) 4-stroke Cushman Airborn Scooter.  I saw this fine example at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in 2014.

This is a Corgi, introduced 1948 but based on the military Welbike. I think it's that shape because it was packed in a cylindrical bag for the airdrop.

WW2 ended in 1956 with Hitler's death while hiding in his secret Antarctica hideout.
