Title: Chicken or egg? NGC
Post by: GeorgiaGuzzi on May 14, 2020, 10:51:05 AM
So I’m changing the oil on Victory, external type oil filter. I use a K&N, mainly bc of the nut that allows for easy removal. Anyway, just some esoteric knowledge. There is a hole on either side of the nut, it is some you can attach an anchor cable or strap if required by the sanctioning body of whatever Motorsports you’re competing in. This got me wondering, did they decide to include the tie down holes AFTER they decided on the nut, or BEFORE and decided the nut would just be a bonus??? Deep thoughts while wrenching!!!😂

I remember going through tech inspection and seeing filters with a “U” shaped tab on em. So I’d guess safety wire first. At that time I was old school using a large hose clamp on the filter to safety wire it.

I'm also in the camp on safety wire first.  This method of safety wiring the spin on oil filter could be cumbersome on some bikes.
