Title: NGC Shakedown ride 71 CB 750 Chopper
Post by: bobrebos on May 14, 2020, 03:49:43 PM
Took the old Honda CB 750 Chopper out for a shakedown ride today after installing new chain, oil change, etc etc, and it ran pretty well.  No problems with the drive chain, but a little popping at idle from the fuel system that i gotta figure out.  It was fun to get back on it though.  That scooter makes me feel 16 years old again!  lol.

Good on ya Bob , it's a great feeling to have at this point in our lives. I still have a 1978 Honda atc with a sl 70motor, Poweroll 82cc kit, cam, etc and when I wheelie it around the block it puts me right back there in time. Keep on keepin' on

...and its a softail?  I have never seen a frame like that.  Interesting.  Do you have the spike helmet to go with the theme of the bike?   :bike-037:

Hey, I'm not into choppers, per se, but your bike looks 'real well-done in terms of craftmanship, design.  Good on you!

Indian and BSA both used plunger frame rear suspension , it takes a bit of the jolt out , but there is no damping .

Where did you find that period piece Bob ?

Its a plunger type frame.  Not really a softail.  Thats what I need ....a SPIKE Helmet to go with it!  Hmmm?????

I think this is a seriously undiscovered category of motorcycle that will get really rare..and should be collected

Uniquely American, customized w period pieces

Each an expression of the person riding it

Now getting to be 45-50 years old

Tied to Easy Rider, and all that 60-70s stuff

They are hand built antiques now...

Id prefer one of these before a concourse restoration of a bmw r69/2...know what i mean?

I noticed that you don't have a "once and done" vintage plate on it.  I guess plate renewals are cheap enough in your county.  We have a wheel tax in our county, so it would be worth pursuing a vintage plate here.

Part of the reason I decided to turn my enclosed motorcycle trailer into a "toy hauler" is that I have a "lifetime" plate on the trailer, whereas an official Toy Hauler camper would require yearly registration.  That and the Toy Haulers in my price range are stapled together soft wood and cardboard.

I never understood people rolling buckhorn bars forward like that.  Creates an awkward hand position to create a "look".  Otherwise, cool bike.

Hey Bob,    That is one cool ride, it's got a very raw mechanical vibe to it, tastefully done

I've never ridden ridden a chopped bike, but judging from the pictures of rides coming out of the closet prompted by your post; I'm sure there's a few of us here who like me,grew up with a poster of Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper from Easyrider on their walls.

A ride on a chopped bike, I think I might put that on my bucket list.  :thumb:

      Tks for sharing

There is a great chopper movie made recently,....on Netflix

Into the Sun, or some such silliness, someone remind us

Or some such...4-5 guys on a chopper ride, tastefully done, contemporary, great visuals and filming

Specific shots of guys barely touching the bike but cruising long distances in a straight line

but a little popping at idle from the fuel system

You might have some of that fine grit that accumulates in the main jet when it sits for a period of time.  Had one back in Mesa, AZ.  Same rake on the front end.  Continental rear tire.  Hard tail frame.  Open pipes.  Ran the tire at 15lbs. air pressure.  The expansion joints on the freeway were fun.     I had bikes with a full suspension after that.

Made it 160 miles round trip on the old Chopper.  Maybe ride it to Suches Georgia for 70s 80s  and 90s weekend at Two Wheels of Suches!  Depends on the rain storms I guess!  Woo hoo bike ran great!

Good to see your chopper last night, Bob.
You earned some "street cred" with your ride out here.
Lisa and I had a nice ride over to there on the Street glide.
Plenty of bikes showed up (two  V-8 bikes, including a Nitrous  Boss Hoss)
and a few cool cars (and one weird/cool Nissan..)
The establishment (Sixes Tavern) took social distancing seriously, and it was wonderful to get out to a Bike and Car Show!
