Title: Sludge
Post by: amamet on May 21, 2020, 06:11:26 PM
Just cleaned out the sludge trap on the ‘73 eldorado. Wish I would have recorded what I pulled out of the lemans. All rotating parts are heading to mike rich for a balancing.

Reciprocation parts, too. Or will you take care of that @ home?  R3~

The whole bike is a reciprocating part :)
Just going to have engine internals balanced. It has a venolia big bore kit so I’m sure it’s not very well balanced.  After rebuilding my lemans, which was the first time I did any kind of engine work, I’ve come to really enjoy Rebuilding these engines. I use rebuild loosely because This is only the second engine I’m into

Shee it, that ain't nuthin. I had to *drill* the stuff out of the sludge trap on the old Eldorado (Monte Carlo) Guzzi.
Tech tip. When the chrome bore are completely toast and she's smoking pretty bad..a red radiator hose ran back past the license plate keeps most of the fog behind you.

At least she’s already iron lined.  Too bad everything else is a disaster 🤣

47 years of accumulation,  omg the world is ending. Not.
Seems reasonable for the time frame, chromed bores, do eldorados have an oil filter?
And lets not forget the sae SC or there abouts grade of oil that was common back then.
Smart of Guzzi to fit the bike with a centrifugal sludge trap, yeah I know they didnt invent it and its a benefit of the way the crank is made.
How many miles?

And that sir is why we appreciate oil filters . Used to love the way old British twins used that method
to ruin left hand connecting rod shells ( and sometimes the rod ) . Not like oil filters were unheard of then .
