You may or may not remember the issues I have had with the purchase of my Audace from the blown up motor to the four month journey to get the bike registered and make contact with the finance company.
A new issue raised its ugly head today. When I bought nthis bike it was advertised as new but turned out that it had been sold and repoed. It had 543 miles on it. The motor blew up and was replaced. In the time since I have found a few issues with the installation of the new motor. A couple of bolts missing, no big deal, replaced. Side cover studs broken, fixed. Tank vent line hanging loose, not connected and a short piece of hose on the tank vent going nowhere.
Well today I hit the ceiling. When I took delivery of the bike I should have run but the only other one was over 1,000 miles away. when the bike was delivered I got only one key for it. I asked the dealer to get me another, but that never happened. The key I hjad looked like a normal key so I had a couple of more made. I tested them and they worked fine.
Well today I was getting ready for a ride tomorrow with a bunch of Harley friends and a lone Indian rider which is really besides the point. But I wanted to make sure the Guzzi made a good impression. I decided I would use one of the spare keys because of the lanyard on it. I rolled the bike out of the garage to take it to gas up. When I went to start it I was asked for a security code. I don't have a code, was never given one and because the bike was repoed I suppose nobody knows what code was entered. I didn't realize the bike had a security system but found it odd that I had a flashing red light but nothing else about it. My first thought was the real key was stuck away in the tyank bag but I had taken that off but what if I had started the bike in the garage in proximity to the chipped key and ropde the 85 miles to our first stop. Then tryed to restart it and needed a security code? An 85 mile tow truck ride home and all my Harley friends thinking he should have kept his Harley.
So I drug out the owners manual and this is when I found that I had the security system which I had then already figured out. My key looked like a normal key so I didn't realize it had a chip in it or at least that is what I now believe. The manual says I can't enter a new code until I entyer the old code. I am assuming the dealer has a way to fix this but I am not too sure. I remember reading on a Harley form when I had mine that there was guy who had the same issue and there was a major problem trying to get it rectified. Does anyone know if mine is a simple fix or not. Even though I got my bike at a different store I am going to the Reno store on Tuesday or Wednesday to get this taken care off and raise some hell over all the issues I have had with these dealerships all part of a group. All three have screwed something up. I should have gone to San Diego and bought the one they had. Any advice welcomed.

when i had my 1400, i lived in terror of seeing the deadly "code" flash. my bike was not repoed, but the dealer had bought it from a gent with 400 miles on it, so the dealer didn't really know the code but guessed for me that it was the last 4 digits of the vin. Fortunately, I did not have to test that theory during by ownership. i feel your pain. It is such a beautiful bike and so much cooler than a Harley (my personal bias, I've had Harleys) and to have the bike crap its pants in front of the Harley group would just be total humiliation, especially if, like me, you shot your mouth off about how uber-cool the 1400 is.

Like Blu mentioned. Give the last 4 digits of the VIN a try.

This may not be any help In your Situation but my 2015 1400 came with a security BYPASS connector which could be used to to bypass all the key fob and security system. This was the first thing I did when I got the bike due to bad luck in general with this type of advanced technology.good luck and I hope you don’t have any of the TPS horrors like I did.

To begin with, I believe it is all zero's if it has never been changed. If it has, many dealers would either set or recomend to the owner to use the last 5 digits of the vin. Yes it's a 5 digit code. If neither one works then I'm sorry to say you have a problem.

That 1400 I had was a sublime machine, but I think many of them left the nest not fully formed. I loved mine and it had only had 2 minor warranty issues, neither of which stranded me but one scared the H out of me. My first MG rally was the West Virginia Memorial Day Rally 200 miles away. The trip there was great, the people were great, but the first night it was very dewy. I got the "limp home" mode the first thing next morning. Bike started but was balky, not really wanting to idle well, but would move and make speed. After a few starts and stops and the sun up, all was fine. But, anyone who has been in this situation knows all of the scenarios that play out in the mind. Weeks later this started to happen on and off and the bike lived in a garage. The eventual problem was an electrical connector that was a few mm too short and when you turned the bars enough time, it gradually worked just loose enough to let in atmosphere, but not enough to kill it. MG solved it with a new connector just a few mm longer. My rear disc warped from my rodeoing the bike in the mountains and working the brake too hard, also warranty.
When Enzo gave me a very good trade figure, although I had loved her when I had her, I wasn't entirely sorry to see the old girl go.

It's always good to update your subject line of the thread with something like "solved" if so moved.

Moving forward, I will suggest you make sure you have 2 chipped keys programed to the bike.

That is my next move. May take some time as one may have to come from Italy. :wink:
