Hello Guzzi Group! I'm Brandon Hammer, 47, I'm an Instrumentation, Electrical and Automation Technician at a Co-Generation power Station in Las Vegas, Nevada. I recently bought a 2017 Moto Guzzi MGX-21 almost 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it! I absolutely love the look and the ride. I am starting to have concerns about this purchase though since getting parts and accessories for it has been a nightmare already! I bought it from the Eurocycle dealership here in Las Vegas without the saddle bags mounted since they didn't have the mounting kit for it and had to order to mounting kit from Piaggio in Italy! It's now been almost 2 months without bags! I was planning a road trip to Utah with a friend but have no bags GRRRR. Obviously, I am getting frustrated with how long this is taking and I started looking online to find the mounting kit myself without any luck. I also was looking for the Carbon Fiber seat eliminator and was told that it has been discontinued! Really? SMMFH. I bought the bike brand new with 2 miles on it. If anyone knows where I can purchase the mounting kit for the bags and/or the seat eliminator I would really appreciate it. I've attached a picture of the seat eliminator and part number (PN:2S000699) in case anyone has any leads for me. Thank you and I look forward to learning more about this beautiful bike with the help of this group. Thanks and safe riding to you all.

They sold you a 'bagger', without 'bags'. Jeez, why does nothing surprise me anymore...
I wish you good luck. Dealing with Italy is the worst nightmare I've ever experienced.
I recently sold many accessories that I had, but all I have left are the carbon luggage rack and clutch reservoir cover.

Have you checked with Cadre Cycle or AF1?
-
Brandon,
If you haven't yet, take Chad's advise about calling Cadre in Ohio and AF1 in Texas. Out of pure curiosity, what was Eurocycle's explanation as to why the MGX-21 bagger you purchased couldn't have the bags mounted when you bought the bike? Do you have the MGX-21 bags, just not the mounting brackets/hardware to mount them?
As Luap has posted, you may need a lot of patience when dealing with Piaggio. For future reference, any Moto Guzzi factory accessory you find for any Moto Guzzi you 'may' someday desire to purchase purchase, buy that accessory immediately. Moto Guzzi is famous for showing accessories when a model is new and then running out of them in very short order. Some they show and never actually make available. All the while charging some of the the highest accessory prices in the industry. Moto Guzzi is a very small part of Piaggio and they're likely nothing like any motorcycle company you may have dealt with previously.
All the best to you with the MGX-21 and in getting the parts to make it whole and to make it 'yours'.

Brandon, you have unfortunately have purchased a bike from the dealership from Hell. I have refrained from bad mouthing this company on line but now with your experience I am not holding back any longer. This company has three stores, the main one in Las Vegas, a second in Windsor Ca and a third in Reno Nv. I got my Audace from the Windsor but I have to deal with the Reno store. My experience with them has been absolutely the worst experience I have ever had buying a vehicle. I am 75 years old and have bought numerous cars, trucks and motorcycles through the years. I don't know if there is a way to look at all my past posts but if so you can look at all of my past trials and tribulations. I just posted the last a couple of days ago.
Anyway I was on a ride yesterday with a bunch of guys one of which has a Ducati and has also dealt with this company. He made a comment that he was considering an MGX which is basically the same as your Audace except for the bags and the fairing etc. I commented that the Reno store had a bunch of them just a short time ago but are only now advertising one for sale. He said they still have several that they bought a bunch of them. It seems there were a lot of them that had somehow dropped out of Piaggo's inventory. So they came up for sale at bargain basement prices so they could be liquidated quickly. Eurocycle picked up the whole lot. So there is a plethora of them in Reno. Last fall I saw at least a dozen in the back room. So I would talk to the general manager of the group about taking mounts off one of those and shipping it to you. As of late last summer his name was Dave. His direct cell phone number is or was: 858-880-8058.
I don't know why Piaggio, Ducati, BMW or Royal Enfield keeps this company as one of their dealerships. In hindsight I wish I had driven the 900 miles or so and gotten my bike from the dealership in Costa Mesa. Good luck, if there is anything I can help with let me know.

Forgive me but aren't the bags part of the bike? Is it not supposed to come equipped with bags from the get go?
If yes, then I think I might be causing a ruckus!

I would call your Vegas store and have them get them from the Reno store. And to answer the other question, the MGX COMES with the bags, MOUNTED. Sounds like they took the mounts for something else or lost them.

So I called that guy Dave and he was a real b-hole about it! he said "have you heard of this thing called - 19 going around?" I said "I know some people are using - as an excuse to be lazy about doing their jobs!" That comment didn't seem to improve his attitude, lol. He said that the mounting kit still has to be FABRICATED at Piaggio in Italy and warranty items were first in line to be fabricated! I asked him "so I bought a bagger, without bags, with no mounting kit to mount the bags for the foreseeable future?l I asked him to send me a picture of the mounting kit and specs so i can have it fabricated myself! What a fkn pain in the ass!]
-
Did you ask him if they could pull a set off one of the several bikes they have in Reno? They aren't going to sell all those bikes in this year and probably the next. When I got mine I said to the finance guy "you guys don't have the best reputation on line." He said yes I know. They haven't done much to improve their image. There is a dealership in Carson City that recently took on Moto Guzzi. I haven't visited the store yet but I intend to soon.
kk
-
He said they don't have anymore for sale. Said that they sold 60 of them and there are 4 of us who are waiting on bag mounting kits. grrrr
-
Four owners waiting on MGX bag mounts from Eurocycle, completely believable. Eurocycle selling 60 MGX’s, no, not one bit believable.
-
No fricken way in hell. They and the previous dealership in Reno that they bought out had the Audace I bought had it for over three years. They just got another. Why, I have no clue. Even Guzzi owners I met at small not a rally had never seen one. And if they had sold that many MGXs I would have at least seen one by now. I do know as of a couple of weeks ago they had at least 6 for sale on their website. I have to go to Reno next week, i'll try to swing by and peek in the shop area.
I am also going to check out the dealership in Carson City to see if they can take care of my needs otherwise I guess I will probably use the Elk Grove dealership even though they are over 3 hours away. Eurocycle is the pits. The service manager gal in Windsor was the only professional and knowledgeable person I dealt with in the whole organization.
I don't mind bitching now as I see that others have been treated badly as well. They are not doing the brand any good.
Another thought, I don't know if you want to spend more money but you could get Cbow mounts and bags. I realize more money for something you shouldn't have to buy but to save a trip it is an option. There may not be a listing for your bike but it is the same as an Audace and I have some on mine.

I still don't get this. The bike leaves the factory with bags and mounts. What happened to them?
-
Brandon, try and get someone at Piaggio on the phone on Tuesday. After, calmly working your way up the food chain at Eurocycle. Not being able to believe them has to be awful. It takes most dealers nearly a year to sell an MGX at $11K. Being told they sold 60 of them is amazing. Unless they bought the lot from Piaggio for $3.5K each and sold them to other dealers at $5K each. Even then, there’s no reason to believe them.
What did Eurocycle tell you about the bags and the brackets when you bought the bike? There seems to be a lot of details missing in this scenario.
The MGX deserves so much more.

You could do this, a bunch more money. I got mine from them. I also got saddle bags from them. They have a good selection. Fast shipping.
I went and looked at all their websites. Not a single MGX listed for sale. Did you get the one with some miles on it or the one listed new, still in the crate?
Something fishy here.

Perhaps they came from former dealers. Only a guess. If so, there’s no way to know their complete history or their true status. If these MGX bikes left the factory missing basic parts, that would be a much different scenario.
-
I explained in an earlier post where these supposedly came from. I have no reason not to believe what this guy told me. He rides a Ducati and has a relationship with the dealership. This company has a problem with telling the truth. When I was negotiating with them on the Audace that had a motor that self destructed. I asked that they get another but they declined. Then a few months later they have another on the floor. This bike is a very rare model and when I was looking for one there were probably less than a dozen in the whole country. I would not recommend this dealership network to anyone. Furthermore they advertise very low prices but tack on all kinds of additional fees so you are not getting the bargain deal you think you are getting. Buyer beware.
I am not slandering them I am just stating the facts as I know them. There is another dealership about 20 minutes away, they would be worth checking out. I will be doing that at my earliest convenience.
kk
-
kk: truth is a complete defense to slander. keep telling it like it is. i don't know af1 but i do know enzo and jim hamlin and i am not talking out of turn when i say that both of those gents will go above and beyond to help a fellow rider whether they got their bikes at their dealerships or not.

Yeah, another EURO Cycle nightmare story, and this is the worst.
What exactly is missing? There is a subframe that is also an integral part of the rear chassis that the bags bolt to.
When I took delivery of my MGX, the dealer sent me pics of the Assembly. ALL they did was attach the clip nuts to the tabs on the bag frame mounts and 3 bolts through the bag to the clips on the subframe. 20 minutes at a good hardware store will easily net you the clip nut things and matching bolts and you should be GTG.
Check to see if the bag subframe is there, and pics would be helpful.
Good luck.

Hey Everyone, new to the forum but in the same boat as Brandon except my experience with EC Reno hasn't been that bad.
1. for parts and accessories I've been looking at AF1. My only worry is that with the virus hitting Italy so hard how reliable are the back-order shipments going to be? I have an email in to the company now and will update when I hear. So far I have only picked up the dark version of the stock windscreen. The US version of the bike comes clear and I think the smoke will blend in to the bike better.
2. I dealt with Dax at the Reno location for my bike. He did right by me and sent texts and pics along the sales process. I did have an unusual request during the deal though, up here in the Portland area all of our MG dealers have gone out of business. My request was to have the mechanic ride the bike for the first service so that it maintains warranty coverage. So at my request they sent him out for about 500mi for initial break in. (I'm sure he hated every minute of it :thumb:). But the bike is complete and ready to go with pics of the odometer and condition all along the way.
3. The Reno branch said they had 3 MGX21's in stock when I bought mine about 6 weeks ago. Maybe try and see if they can take the part from a bike that hasn't sold yet?
Anyway, Nice to meet you all!

Great first hand information. So far we’re left with mostly speculation on Brandon’s scenario.

You CAN mount a topcase on the MGX, I mounted a Norge topcase on mine.
You will need to order the Isotta Passenger Seat Bracket, and then cut/paint/drill 1/4" iron C channel stock. The C Channel is sandwiched between the Isotta Bracket and seat base, and then you can mount the Top Case Mount/Base to the C Channel. My first run had the c channel bars between the Isotta mounting bolts, but it was narrower than I liked, and the second, I drilled holes through the c channel bars. Made 'quick removal more involved but the platform was more stable. I never took pics of V 2, but here is how it looked at V1.
I believe AF1 carries most of the Isotta line. TOP quality stuff. Highly recommend the case guards, and windscreen options. If AF1 doesnt have what you need in stock, and you order from europe, it takes almost a month to get to the US. https://www.rs-motorcyclesolutions.de/de/moto-guzzi/mgx-21/
The Paint was a 90% match, is a Chrysler Charcoal Duplicolor rattle can. No idea which one, as I gave the cap to the guy I sold it to.
Did you check to see if the subframe/mounting tabs are in the fender? If so, you can easily get the hardware you need to mount the bags, is only 3/4? per bag if I remember.

they ship without bags mounted on the bike yet so they dont get damaged is what i was told.
-
So I called the dealership today here in Las Vegas to just go pick up the bags and fabricate the mounting brackets myself! After speaking with the SALES manager (not the service manager) He went and spoke to the service manager. i just received a text from the sales manager that they now somehow magically HAVE my brackets there at the store! WTF? I'm not even gonna put more thought into it. i just want my bags mounted....a long time ago. They just proved to me that they are going to be a pain in the ass getting things done in the future. Lame.
-
Brandon, Exactly what did Eurocycles tell you about the bags not being mounted when you bought your MGX-21 bagger?
-
They said the the bags are shipped separately so they don't get damaged. I was told the t they bought 100 of them from Piaggio and misread the market and were not able to compete with Harley, Indian, Honda etc in the bagger market so they reduced the price by $10,000! That's why i got a 2017 MGX-21 (with zero miles) right out of the crate, instead a brand new one. They said since they had 100 bikes sent in crates, there were also 100 sets of bags and mounting kits that were shipped separately. When they got down to the end of the sales they realized that they were short some mounting kits and so began my ordeal with Eurocycle.

Thank you for your first hand account Brandon. Others in the know will certainly be able to verify if the MGX-21 bagger's bags and mounting hardware are shipped separately or in the crate. As you can read above, Eurocycles certainly has a credibility gap.
First someone posted they bought 60 bikes and now Eurocycle told you they had 100 of them to sell. Wow, that's a whopper of a story.
All the best to you in getting what never should have been missing in the first place.
-
My MGX Shipped with the bike in a Crate, and the Side cases and mounting kit in a separate Box. They sent pictures of the uncrating and unpacking of the boxes as well as assembly.
I'm 99% sure that the subframes for the cases were ON THE BIKE, and the side cases with bolts, clips, reflectors, and bag liners were in a separate box. I asked them NOT to mount the reflectors on the bags.
Glad that you are making progress!
**Important question. Did they do the check for the Master Cylinder recall and the USB port upgrade? The USB port even after the upgrade really isnt ready for primetime charging, at least on most high capacity cell phone batteries.
SHoot me a PM if you want a copy of the digital owners and service manual, I have a bunch of that.
-
TN Mark, to clarify.... the person who spoke about the 60 bikes was me. That statement came from the Service and Parts Manager when calling the Reno location inquiring about an extra bag mounting kit and if they might have an extra one at that Reno location.
The 100 bikes statement came from my Salesman at the Las Vegas store. He said that they sold 100 of them and Mine was THE LAST. Although I was told by the Sales Manager later about a week after my MGX-21 deal was made that they just sold ANOTHER MGX-21 at the same store! It seems that honesty and transparency are lost on just about all at this dealership since they all seem to have conflicting information. It's a shitty way to do business we all can attest to since now the trust for the dealership is gone!
It is what it is I guess. Thanks for being so helpful and be safe.

I had a nut come loose in my still under warranty (then) Ducati ST3, it locked the tranny up in 3rd gear. Covered under warranty but after 3 months, I was like WTF? Told they were waiting on a self locking nut, to come in from Bologna. It's Italian lol. Supply chain is 'different'
