Have a Norge 8V. Have always run the Pirelli Angel GT or ST. Love how they handle. etc. but they sure go away quick! Currently my rear is a ST and looks like I will get just over 3,000 miles about what I was getting with the GT. The front runs about double that.
I have heard/read comments that the Norge can be picky about it's rubber, GTs were the factory tires. So...thoughts on replacements other than the Angels? Something that will still have good handling but significantly longer tire life. I am running a Shinko rear for the first time on the rear of my T-3 instead of Avons and have no complaints and appears that it is going to last much longer. Maybe worth trying on the Norge?

You should be getting about 9-10k miles out of a set on the Norge. Michelin Pilot Road 4 or 5 now that the 3 is probably not available...definit ely get the GT for the rear. Either those Angels are super soft or roads are really bad or you’re running well under inflated or you are one bad ass rider carving up the canyons of Kansas!

Not too many curves around here, have plenty of tread toward the edges. I am religious about tire pressure. 41 lbs in the rear and 38 in front.

Yeah...I'm aware, my comment was tongue in cheek. But 3K miles and worn out on the rear, and 6K on the front, something is wrong, or the roads are REALLY rough where you live. That's abnormally low mileage to get out of a touring tire.
Or maybe it's the gravel driveway you have to traverse to get to the main road that's chewing up the tires prematurely...just hazarding a guess, but then, maybe it's worth paving a section to make it easier on your poor Norge!

On my tour to NS/PEI a couple years ago, I got into some gnarly debris that required a new set of tires. Found a small speed shop in Acadia Maine with a set of Metzler M3's. No joke, they were NOT any better than the Angel GT's I had (with 5K) I burned through the Metzlers rear in 3K miles. Replaced them with Dunlop Roadsmart 3's, but had I kept the bike would have gone back to the Angels.

Why would you buggerise around “experimenting” with ANYTHING else other than Pilots, when they return 20,000 plus...?

2 sets of Angel GT's-6000 miles each time including chip and seal in PA. I'm astounded that you only get 3000 miles. That's so far from what every Norge owner I know gets I'm not sure what to think.
I do know Hamlin uses the latest Michelin on his Norge and is always telling me to get some.

Michelin Road 5 on the GRiSO. Good by me, saved my dumb ass a couple times already.
Good grip and they recover from slips and slides very well. Had to wash my under shorts a couple times.
Excellent in the wet.
15K and counting.
Will probably be ready to replace at the end of this season with another set.
I only put on about 200/wk if I'm not traveling.

I'm running the Scorpion Trail II on my Griso. Don't know why they think this is a dual sport tire but and hopefully will last longer than its angelic cousin.

This weekend was a good example. Left yesterday with the rear still good enough to distinctly show the middle tire tread marks, easy to catch your finger nail on. Got home today the middle of the tire was a slick.

I just installed Michelin pilot 4 GT on my Norge last weekend. Put around 400 miles on this weekend and love them so far.
I could not believe the original pirelli angel gt tires were in good shape at 7000 miles for being 8 years old.
I have always had good luck with Michelin and seem to like them better. I can't really say why, and it's probably all in my head anyway, but I do like the way they feel. They look like they will be a good rain tire too.

I used to run the PR2's and 3's on my FJR. Liked the 2's, not the 3's. Have heard good things about the PR5's, but 20,000KM's is a bit on an anomaly I think. Kudos to you!

The ignoring thing is understandable, but why ignore the obvious answer then ask the same question ?
As for the pat on the back for the tyre life, all I do is ride the thing...

Wow! I've got 10K on the rear Angle GT and there looks to be maybe 2,000 miles left. Close to 15K on the front. I'll stick with GT's

Thanks for all the feedback. After more care checking of my tire purchases and mileage it looks like I have been getting closer to 4,000 miles, apparently still below most posted experiences. Don't know what I do to be that hard on tires.

Why do you refuse to put Michelin Pilot 5’s on your bike and then just say goodbye to the problem ?

That’s 21,000 k and I’ll probably toss them in another 1,000 or so.

Most of the use on that tyre was in Europe @ 15-30 degrees C.
Also in Australia which is well, you know....Australia.
General suburban/city use and highway at 100-120 k’s... All fairly standard.

I went to the steel in 5000 miles on the original Angels on my 8V Norge (double + on the front). I switched to GT Pilots and they work great and about 1/2 again miles of life. I didn't sense any great difference in the feel of the bike after switching

I just bought a pair of Shinko Ravens for my Norge. At $157 delivered for the pair, they can go away at 5,000 miles. The best I got out of Pilot 5s was 9,000. A rear is the same price as a pair of Shinkos. And yes, I have had three KLRs. I'm cheap.

I'd be interested to read your opinion in the future, on the Ravens after a few miles.
I came very close to going with the Ravens for my V11 Lemans, but ended up with Conti Road Attack 3's yet to be installed.
I have a set of Shinko 705's on my DR650, I think Shinko is gaining a deserved reputation for affordable quality tires.

Re tyres for Norge 8v. I have used two sets of Angel GTs. Both returned about 7,000 miles of legal tread.
