Title: Virginia N.A.R. at Willville?
Post by: Mayor_of_BBQ on June 09, 2020, 11:13:47 AM
Just curious how many are still planning to go to Will's motorcycle campground on the weekend of 6/26-28?

I really enjoy this rally because I can ride the parkway almost from my doorstep to the campground...  Any other Guzzi riders planning to stay/camp? Or even locals dropping by on a day trip?

Calimero and me are planning on coming up Friday afternoon. How is the food situation in that part of the pandemic?  Due to an argument with my cardiologist I now have to do better on my choices...

Haven't been down to Patrick County lately, but in little rural "here" in Virginia, restaurants are pretty much normal.    The old normal ....

Was there last week. Everything is basically back to normal. Seating areas in restaurants were 6 ft apart and also offered outside seating

The Rally is cancelled ... the Not A Rally is on!   It's a distinction of sorts, but it'll work.

Well, there's good crowd here at the Not A Rally tonight,  lots of talk around the campfire, many are old friends not Guzzi related who happen to be here while me, Calimiero and Dilliw are hanging out, Mayor of BBQ was here for a bit, I hear, should be back tomorrow, and Bob wants Nick to know that if he had a decent job he could afford a Factory Tuono like Bob's, so Nick better get here to defend himself.

Beautiful weather, stars and fireflies everywhere, yall are missing out....

Beautiful ride today, lots of new roads I've never been on, at least a dozen Guzzis here and a bunch of other bikes. A great Greek restaurant between Willis and Floyd where you'd never expect to find one.

If you can't have a rally this is the next best thing...

Home and dry after a great weekend.

I never realized how many people make "Willville" their summer home-away-from-home.    A few folks actually live there or in the area during the summer to avoid the coastal or Florida heat, and they ride the roads around there all the time, and they know some fantastic riding loops.

We had 6 or so Guzzi folks that were there that would have been at the rally if it were on, another dozen that we already knew because they usually are around when the rally's on, and a bunch of new friends that were hanging out around the campfire.

There are a surprising number of excellent places to eat in a 20-mile radius, too.   Some folks camp-cooked at the rally and some went out for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Five of us went on a ride Saturday .... two Stelvios, a Griso, an Aprilia Tuono rocket-bike, and a Suzook SV-650.   I must say that to me, looking from the high seat of my wide and heavy Stelvio, the sporty bikes (especially the sporty Suzuki) looked like ballet dancers going through the turns, putting in a lot less effort than I was to get through the "esses", although I must say the Stelvio handles very well for its size and wideness.

During that ride, we came across a "mud race" event at Kanawha Valley ... they had made a track next to the river, there were pits, tents, and booths set up, must have been 1500 -2000 people there, with nitro-fueled and supercharged trucks running about a 6-second mud drag course.   We hung around for a while just to see the trucks run, and do a little people-watching.

Rode through some sprinkles coming home, but nothing to get into wet gear for, and I highly enjoyed the whole weekend, the company, the setting, and the riding ....

Ahh the mud bog!  That is an interesting place!

We saw a couple of the pro trucks.  One was a big block Ford and another was a very high reving Chevy (guessing LS of some sort).  Both were on the bottle.

Social distancing!

Nice Griso Tenni George!  I still have my 2002 V11 Tenni.  Needs a battery and service job. Glad you guys had a nice time at Willville.
