Three of us decided to go for a 4+ hour RIDE next Tuesday to Alpine, AZ to stay one night at the historic Hannigan's Meadow Lodge, in the White Mts. of AZ.
Built in 1926, and located at 9200 feet, it should be nice and COOL for a change. Will post some photos and file a report as required.
Time to exercise the ol' Yellow Horse! :thumb:    In the meantime, a few file photos...

I hope thy have up graded the rooms for your trip, We were there about six years ago, checked in, went to our cabin, looked around and checked back out and drove to Talwiwi lodge in Alpine. Much cleaner and nicer. The food at Hannigans was excellent but the accomodations were less than Manny's no- tell motel!

The cabins are all booked and FULL! We are staying in the Lodge. I am sure the rooms will be fine for one night. Besides, it's a MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE! I am happy to have a warm bed and shower!!   :thumb:

Good Stuff. We were supposed to go thru there last spring but - screwed everything up. Did you stop at Avery BBQ in Springerville?

Yes, and I have even stayed at that creepy REED's Lodge in Springerville! Again, OK for a 1-2 stay on the bike!

Ha! My brother-in-law and I stayed at Reed's and ate at Avery's in March 2019. Both were memorable stops. The Coronado Trail (US 191) through Alpine and Hannigan's Meadow is an amazing road, but we got down to a highway maintenance yard where we were told that the bridge at Morenci was closed. So it was back up 191 and over into NM to get where we wanted to go. No complaints though, riding that road was a blast in both directions!
Is the bridge at Morenci opened now? The ADOT guy said it was closed indefinitely.

Nice area! Speaking if motels I always try to find motels with the direct walk in rooms. Becoming less and less common and more often than not privately owned which can be good or not. As pointed out motorcycles adventures are not found just in the ride.

The rooms in the main lodge look OK to me, and they each have their own bathroom!!
Again, just for one night, what the hell!! :thumb:

Well it does look to be renovated since we were there, drywall on the walls and separate baths a big improvement! Enjoy your stay!

Awesome place to be , on the yellow horse, right now, JJ. I have fond memories of sitting on the front porch of that little store, eating an ice cream with my wife when we were riding 191 all the way up from Douglas. I remember a great little cafe right near there, that made those great "New Mexico" style green chile cheeseburgers!
Enjoy your trip!
Rick.
BTW :I just had some friends come back down 191 that way,and they did not mention the bridge at Morenci being shut down. FWIW.

Thanks Rick! :thumb: With all this --19 insanity going on now, I am just grateful to RIDE with two friends and get out of Dodge for awhile. Should be a fun trip. Will take some photos. I have not been there in 30 years. The White Mts. are beautiful and COOL this time of year.

It looks like a nice enough place, but staying in a fleabag hotel is a time honored road trip tradition and part of the adventure. I do however, draw the line at having to kill a mouse in the room with my boot when judging the accommodations.

In my time, (50+ years of riding "In-The-Wind"), I have stayed in some fleabag motels of biblical proportions!!  ...but you are right, it's all part of the adventure!! :thumb: :boozing:

* Beautiful ride through the White Mts...540 miles round trip
* All bikes ran great! My Centauro averaged 47.4 MPG @ 70-75 mph...and no LEAKS!
* Bill's Triumph and Mike's Beemer ran flawlessly...
* Nice and cool at 9200 feet!
* Nice accommodations...go od food, (we all had the grilled Salmon), friendly staff...
