Title: Trit-Trot to Boston
Post by: Swedemoto on July 05, 2020, 07:33:47 PM
Saturday I went over to Boston to pick up an '73 Eldo 850 GT California. I've been looking for an Eldo for a while and missed a couple this year. I preferred the plain civilian style, not a fan of all the chrome but I'll take it. Starts and idles fine, but will need to be gone thru. Dropped the pan and oil was dirty and evidence of tiny chrome bits. Damn, I need to go to the gym. I'm about 155 lbs and there is no way I'm putting that on the centerstand alone. It also came with an '71 Ambo project. Was told the engine was gone thru by a guru somewhere in NY If it was it was awhile ago. Both had titles! A $25 HF dolly with pull handle works great by the way.

Don’t go to the gym mate, just put in on and off the stand 50 times a day for 3 months and the required muscle groups will positively burst out of your skin...!... :thumb:

Or just get someone to show you or explain the "secret" trick to using the center stand.  I nearly got a hernia the first couple of times I put my 73 up on the center stand, but after someone taught me the proper technique it was embarrassingly easy to do.

Very true.   You try putting a Loop on the centerstand like you would any other bike, and you have to be Man Mountain Dean to do it.

Get someone to show you the right way, and it floats up onto the stand like a dandelion seed in the breeze.

I've never understood the dynamics of that but it works.

Nice score! Don't sweat the chrome. Any chrome shop can strip the parts.

Nice score!  :thumb: That 4LS brake is a beautiful thing and actually works very well when set up properly.

Someday hopefully. Anybody make a video of this?
The brakes are dragging both ends which doesn't help. I'll need it on the stand first. So many things to do!
I'm aware of the cylinder kits and all that, but why isn't a bore and oversize piston an option without Nikasil coating? Cast iron like the SP.
