RIP helluva fiddler!
When I got out of the Marines I worked for a roofing and sheetmetal company in Wilmington NC. Their claim to fame was Charlie practiced in their warehouse in his earlier years.

Very sad to hear that. My wife is a big fan of Devil went down to GA. Always perks her up.
Our Charlie Daniels Band memory... While I was cutting stone up north just after we were married, we went to see his band at Thunder Road race track in Barre, VT. There was some opening Yankee band playing what they considered appropriate southern country/rock. One of their songs reminisced about the "Crimson wave.." down home in good ol' Alabama. My wife and I both did double take and immediately gave each other a "did they really just say that?" look. We decided it was a good thing they were singing that song up in VT and not in good ol' Alabama.
No matter, Charlie Daniels did not disappoint.

I got to meet him in Kimberling City Mo. one time, I was working a BBQ trailer selling ribs, chicken and other hickory smoked goodies on a Memorial Day Weekend. I delivered Charlie a slab to his hotel room, his crew pretty much bought us out after that. Charlie was a real down to earth good old boy that LOVED our ribs (they were pretty good)

Just read that...very sad news... R.I.P. Charlie Daniels...and Godspeed!
I saw him several times when I lived in Austin, TX in the late 70's.
He was a talented musician who played multiple instruments! His legacy will be all his great music...

He was a hellava guitar player too. Listen to Saddletramp or Billy the Kid sometime.
Rest in peace Mr. Daniels and thanks for the music.

Sad day for music. Glad I saw him in person a few years back.

Due to Charlie doing an annual fund raiser for a facility I was working at during the 80s I had multiple interactions with him over several years. I didn't agree with much of his politics but he was a good and genuine human being that gave a lot this world besides his great music. RIP.
