Title: first start in 7 years
Post by: amamet on July 19, 2020, 03:48:43 PM
she started right up, didn't explode into a ball of fire.  never having built an engine before will get all kind of thoughts in your head when you start it up for the first time.  it actually came to life quicker than my new car.  guess the timing and carbs were set well when I bench set them.  new everything, Charlie Cole built transmission, mike rich heads and balancing, gilardoni 88mm kit, megacycle cam, Gregg bender harness.  all new bearings, seals etc... all black parts powder coated and/or painted. lance Johnson did the paint. if you don't know him its no wonder.  he doesn't advertise. he runs a farm in Dutchess county.  he paints the race bikes for Hudson valley motorsports and ducati ny.  he also did restoration work on a few bikes in the Stuart parr collection. the Zard exhaust is built well, sounds well and looks the part, but, the finish is a little on the lite side, scratches easily and is now dented where it hits the frame on the inside (can't be seen). also came to me with a few big scratches and fitment needs tweeking. even if they used a lemans for the mock up (which I m sure they did) I bet no 2 bikes are the same so...  here's a few pict so far

Wow!  THAT's going to be fun, and an attention grabber, on the road.

Non-Guzzi folks will be saying "Who makes that?" and the cognoscenti will be envious.   You'll be grinning!

Turning the key for the first time for the first engine you've rebuilt is a memorable experience. I remember the nerves I had for the first one I did and my elation when it ran.

Nice work, beautiful, congratulations!

That is a beautiful build.  Where did you have to dent in the exhaust for clearance.

Wonderful work! Now, suit up and ride that thing like it was meant to be. You'll love it more with each passing mile. If you're built for it you won't find a better classic sporting ride.
