From the ad, it looks like a nice one

It's low miles, but has surface corrosion on the headers and bar end weights - probably elsewhere. Photos tend to hide it. Looks like it needs a good clean up. Seat must have a rip - taped up. I think it's still got the 16" front. I could be way off, but $3K seems more realistic.

I was thinking $2500 but still wouldn't be interested

I’ve seen a lot worse bikes brought back with a little time and elbow grease.

These 1000 Le Mans are very under Valued and under rated IMHO.

I think $3000. Would be a fair price.

I doubt that the carbs need to be “replaced”.

I agree, John. The carbs should be fine. And there is a good chance it could be brought back to tip top condition with minimal effort and expense.

On the other hand, it might not be that easy. My 'new' LM3 took quite a bit (including clutch change) to bring up to my standards, and it looked really nice in the photos. And it still may need some attention to the transmission to handle poor second to third up shifts.

When decent LM1000s go for 4-5 it may not sell at 3K. Yeah, it's valuable to you or me, but what does the market think? What are they willing to pay? $2500 may be more in line.

Another thing to consider is the impending crash when the stimulus money is gone. These are some crazy times and stuff will be going cheap pretty soon to make food or rent money.

Wirespokes,

 “ market” ?

What is this “ market” for Moto Guzzi's you speak of...:)

$4200 OBO.  It looks like a good bike for someone who wants a LM without paying round fin prices and more power than a LM3.  That's a bike that can probably be had for $3500 or less, detailed, enjoyed and have more value to boot when all said and done.

If I was interested, I would wait , maybe call him.  I would feel foolish if I paid much more than 2500. I wonder if he has the stock air box.  It might be unmolested ‘cept for that.

Is the Partial red frame Correct for this Le Mans?

I like that body-style LeMans, although all white is not my favorite paint scheme.  And I'm OK with spending $2500-3000 on one.  And I have the spare time and willingness to drive a 2000 mile/30 hour round trip.

But I haven't ridden one in several decades, apart from the half hour I rode Denis' '85 last year.  I just don't know if my MediCare-eligible body could cope with the pegs and clip-ons.

The scratches on the front fender are from the mispositioned horns, windshield is broken near the mount. You could find a bunch of stuff on a bike this old,  all needing time or money or both.

It's not an SE, but it is an '87. Front fender built-in flap was only like that on the '87. Seems like a good bike to me, I wouldn't hesitate buying it if I were looking for one. I'd want to know why the spoilers and mirrors off though.

Agreed. It looks to me like an easy barn find. I'd be on it if I was in the market, but I'm not.

My 85 has that little black "extension" on the back of the front fender. They are lovely bikes, and alot of fun to ride!
I think I will probably put mine up for sale ,soon,as the Griso makes it kinda redundant to own both.

Bigbikerrick,

That is one sweet Le Mans. As mentioned earlier, I think that these 1000 Le Mans are often overlooked, compared to the early series. That mill has a terrific mid range. A friend had a 86 that he regularly would take on 3,4 and 500 mile weekend rides. It was very reliable as I recall.

Thanks, for the kind words, John. Yes ,these LeMans IMHO are great bikes for weekend rides. They have a very "natural" sport touring type of riding position, that make them real mile eaters. Mine has been 100% reliable, and the big valve motor has a real strong midrange!

Interesting on the front fender. I didn't think that fender was used on the earlier bikes. Your bike also has a red frame, was that restored by you or someone else before your ownership? Maybe the fender was swapped? Just fine-tuning my learning on these things  :azn:

I have an 85 and 87 - both with that same front fender. And they both have the red lower frame rails.

but good things to say about her.

If one get this for $2500 I think it would be a good deal. The price of the IV's are not like the I, II and III's but ride a IV is all I have to say.

That is a nice looking SE. IIRC, In 1987, there was a crate of these encounters from Italy, that were damaged by salt water that wished over them. The dealer in Philly was selling these at a steep discount.
