Title: Bobber Sport key cloned - now I have a spare key :)
Post by: Caffeineo on July 29, 2020, 11:15:24 AM
I did not get a spare key with my new Bobber Sport. As they are magically keyed to the bike you need to take your bike to a dealer to get a spare key made. Being in Idaho my nearest dealer is in Portland it is a real PITA. ANyways a local key shop stepped up and really helped out. I got a blank from https://www.keys4urride.com/moto-guzzi-c-27.html (https://www.keys4urride.com/moto-guzzi-c-27.html) then took it to the lock smith where they cut it. They then cloned my 1 original key to a tiny little chip that I super glued to the key. Now I have a second key so my chances of loosing the original go to almost zero.

I did get an original blank from AF1 and had it cut but when I tried to use it I get asked for the service code. Makes me think that if you have the service code you may be able to get a key to work without having to take it to a dealer. I searched and can not find the service code for the V9. Anyone know it and care to share it with me so I can have a original spare?

No joy with the vin digits. I have found service codes for everything but the V-9 and V85. :(
At least I have a working spare without sending the only key off to a dealer.  :thumb:
Now I can wait for the service code to get leaked......

You need the user code set by a previous owner, not the service code. Here are the instructions to reach the user code retrieval and resetting options, from what seems to be the Bobber/Roamer owner's manual:

**********************

Instrument panel configuration
Press and hold the centre of the "MODE" when in "ODOMETER" mode to access the
following advanced functions:
1) Gear shift indicator threshold (SET GEAR SHIFT)
2) Change user code (USER CODE MODIFICATION)
3) Recover user code (USER CODE RECOVERY)
4) Change odometer unit of measurement (SELECT UNIT (Km/mi))
5) Change consumption indicator unit of measurement (SELECT UNIT (L/100 - Km/
L - US mpg - IMP mpg))
6) Change thermometer unit of measurement (SET UNIT °C - °F)

**********************

Moto continues:

To change the user code you need the old one.

To recover the user code you need two distinct, registered keys. A clone won't do.

From the factory, the user code would have been 00000. There are some obvious possible codes to try. Good luck.

My comments are based on knowledge of the security system for the CARC bikes. The dash on the V9's is new.

Look here for the owner's and service manuals:

Thank you for the detailed reply......but I am being asked for the service code, not the user code. I have tried 00000 for the service code and it does not work. I bought the bike as new (demo) from a dealer and believe the user code is still all 00000. I thought the user code was different from the service code. User code being set/or not, by the owner. Service code is used by dealers to access what they do not want owners to access.

Thanks for your courteous reply.

I misunderstood your very clearly expressed intention to register your AF1 key in the dash's memory. For that my Griso does require the service code, so it makes sense your bike does too. Short of mailing your dash to Portland your only hope is to guess or otherwise obtain the service code, but I at least can see no obvious pattern to the published codes for previous bikes.

Best wishes.

Try 34534. I found that in a search..

uh oh.. I found another that says it is PADS only to code a key.

Yes getting a key added is currently a dealer only job. Until the service code for the V9 is leaked - that may/may not help.
That is why I was so happy that I found a locksmith who did the research (made a few calls) and told me what blank to get (no transponder) and copied my original keys voodoo to a chip that I super glued to the copy to get a working spare key.  :thumb:
